I saw this Facebook reel a couple of weeks ago and it made me think how ignorant Americans are of socialism:

Awesome! The very reason that career politicians disparage him is that they KNOW these improvements can be done. But because they are toadies for the rich, they don't want to rock the boat. There are too many politicians who talk up their "concern" for the common people and think we won't notice they DO nothing. Now we're calling them out. It's why they are comfortable with Trump, though seeming to deny it. They like the glitz he surrounds himself with, flushing money down the toilet while saying we just can't afford any social programs. They are as hollow and shallow as he is.

I wish Zohran continued success.

I like "your" (Qasim's?) style. I do not normally like pleas for "give me money" or getting stopped or blocked from commenting on some newsletters. But, when it is done with style I tend to forgive.

I wish this could happen in Chicago. We need so much in our city. We need another Mamdani. Thank you for your very informative piece.

He’s what this Country needs now. ✊🏻☮️💙🌈

Mamdani has been all talk and no walk when it comes to standing up for the transgender community. Two NYC hospitals recently stopped providing gender affirming care and he’s done nothing about it. Per Erin in the Morning there are steps he could take but isn’t

How we lost the 2024 election:

1. I won't vote for Biden because he supports Israel.

2. I won't vote for Biden because he is too old--I'll just sit this one out.

3. Voting for Biden would be a retroactive endorsement of his vote to invade Iraq.

4. Biden has never apologized for his numerous right-wing policy positions, such as writing the fascist USA-Patriot Act and the 1994 crime bill that expanded mass incarceration of Black men--Biden is a BAD man.

5. Joe Biden wants to kill the planet. He still refuses to support a Green New Deal whose goal is zero net carbon emissions by 2030. He wants to do it by 2050. Way too late!

All these are flat out truthful. Because of that many Democratic voters stayed away from the polls. Yet they ended up with all the same things and a hell of a lot more.

In a democracy you will never find a candidate that 100% fits your list. If Mamdani fails in this one area of transgender rights does that mean he fails in everything:

I am straight but belong to an LGBTQ + church with a lesbian pastor. We had a copastor until recently who was transgender. They too have insisted that EVERYTHING must be included to vote for a candidate. Now they are facing the possibility of losing the right to marriage. Transgender people are no longer in the military. Our copastor left our church in Tennessee to lay low in California worried that he could not get the drugs he needed to survive.

One issue people lost the 2024 election for Democrats. It will only get worse, because MAGAs are 100% unified. Whatever leader says is right.

We have to give up some principles to save a few. This is akin to someone going over the side of the boat, so enough water is left for the others to survive.

But therein lies the problem for progressives', it's always someone else who must pay the price. Trans people make up 2.8 million people. Black people make up 51.6 million. Do I give up voting rights for Blacks because I won't concede health care to trans people?

This is the moral dilemma that brought the Trump regime to power. Until we solve it, we deserve to lose and lose we will.

They’re looking to pass a similar law here in San Diego. We have a lot of empty homes here as well.

I'm stuck in the "Ma$ter - Slave state of Atlanta GA. You give me hope that there is a slow shift in America. And the more Trump is Trump he will sabotage the mid-term elections for most Republicans. Get ready for an increase in Social Democrats. And should not the most powerful by position in the Country (President) be required to PASS a screening before taking Office and periodically by a Panel of independent Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and Social Workers?

Screen out the extreme narcissists, psychopaths, and unstable.

I'm pleased with Mamdani -- his straight-ahead, unafraid march for better for the most amount of people. He will have setbacks, but he is unafraid, doesn't hold back and hedge his bets like the average pol.

We have a huge “empty-house-of-rich-people” problem in a Colorado. There are some scenic counties where the absentee rate is +30%. So very selfish and misguided.

Unfortunately, Griffin is busy here in Florida - hard not to wish him on someone else!

If they can afford to keep homes empty, they can afford taxes to keep the middle classes in their homes. Hopefully Mamdani focuses on affordable housing and rental control next.

It’s more than keeping it empty. Housing in major world cities is an investment for them.

Bravo! There's hope for America.

For at least thirty years Michigan has a similar policy. There is a "homestead" property tax and a noticeably higher "non-homestead" (ie vacation homes) property tax. A million dollar vacation property would pay about $9,000 more in property taxes.

Gonna make a plug - if you don’t know about Milwaukee’s Socialist Mayors (1910-1960), now you do
