I am so sorry for the loss of Abdullah Amin and for all lives lost, and for all impacted by this hateful act. I can’t even imagine the pain their families and loved ones are going through right now. I am so heartsick and devastated by this hate crime and by all of the hate that cultivated it. And these young people grow up in a culture where America commits genocide to Muslims abroad and experiences no consequences. And look how our government ruins voting rights for Black Americans. I know that Muslims come from different racial backgrounds but when children sees there are groups that are “othered” they are impacted by that. All acts of racism and Islamophobia add up to these larger acts of racist violence and hate crime. White people, we must stop gaslighting racism in our communities. And stop dismissing male violence as “boys will be boys”. Stop carrying firearms in the house. Stop ignoring when your child bullies someone at school or seems to join weird groups. Notice what they are doing online. We must open our eyes and be proactive to stop the violence before it occurs and end racism in our communities.
This is the most horrendous tragedy. May Amin Abdullah's memory be a blessing, and the memories of two other men killed be blessings. I hope that this leads to greater protections for all people.
