Hi Qasim! I am loving the independent media coverage from you and a couple of your colleagues. I wish I could afford to pay everyone I read, but I cannot. It is worth it like a newspaper I trust is, but I can only afford one right now.

Unfortunately I am one of the 800,000+ people that have been laid off this year. All thanks to Trump’s shambles of an economy.

Should I find myself in a better financial position, I’d love to be a paid subscriber. I truly value your work and don’t take for granted that you don’t lock content or comments behind a paywall.

All the best to you, brother. You do amazing work.

I couldn't finish the poll. I love your work and information, and thank you for what you do and teach. I would give financially to this important work, if it was in my power to do so.

I couldn’t do the poll, glad to read it was a glitch and not me. I was aligned with your top percents. Paid subscriber.

I admire all the work you do to support human rights. I will become a paid subscriber when I get my debt under control. I would like to send you a copy of my 2024 self-published book:

"Quality of Life and Human Rights Policies in the US, How do the two political parties compare." My book sets the background for many to understand what is happening today in the Trump Administration and its movement toward and practice of authoritarianism. Type in Ilsa Lottes when you are online. I am a legitimate scholar of human rights and want to help your work if I can. I am only interested in reducing suffering by teaching about the importance of human rights. I do not seek fame or super wealth--although more money and resources would help our cause. My email is lottes@umbc.edu. and my phone is 443 7651976. If interested in my book--which should establish my legitimacy, email me where to send it. It is also available on Amazon for $15. Keep up the important work you do. I very much want people to have accurate information and you do provide that. Ilsa Solveig Lottes

I guess I compare the cost of the Substack subscriptions with say NYT, Atlantic, WSJ, or Guardian who have many writers covering many topics and this Substack per writer subscription cost is not a lot less than a subscription to those large reporting organizations. I absolutely love your writing. I also like about four or five other writers and topics. When it all adds up it’s $300 a year for only four or five writers. I value them all but can’t afford all of them so I end up just not subscribing. Wish Substack had a way of our paying less across more writers. For example $20/month for us to follow ten writers, or $10/month to follow five writers.

Just occurred to me, are you open to bartering? I would be willing do assist with editing or research in lieu of the paid subscription.

Very kind of you but honestly I have no paywall for a reason! I never want anyone to feel pressured or restricted. Grateful to you for reading and sharing my work ❤️✊🏽

Offer stands. It's meaningful to me. Let me know if you want to see my credentials at any time. Peace.

Many months ago I paid for a subscription to Lucid.com (Ruth ben Ghiat) but I have to hold off on other paid subscriptions, which is very frustrating as I want your essential voice and that of others to be available!

My background is - academically - interdisciplinary research focusing on the intersection of international human rights and health care/health policy and immigration law. Initial work was in the HIV/AIDS arena. I've worked professionally in various public health capacities and as writer/editor.

I'm semi-retired but hoping to get some part-time work. If I do, I would most certainly move into paid status. (I was recruited for a good part-time editing position before the Nov. 2024 election, but lost it quickly because it was with a major research university.)

I hope you are able to continue this work and I'm grateful for the opportunity to follow you.

my reasons for following include that it is hard to find people, even on the left, who are objective, UNCONDITIONAL human rights advocates. People also don't realize their own biases and how their own behaviors contribute to problems. My heart is aching.

As a caregiver of family members with disabilities, I'm trying to advocate for all those who don't have voices. As a retired veteran and former active duty army wife, I'm advocating for all who should be treated equally in the United States- That is everyone. Neither my uniform nor my army spouse purpose discriminates against anyone. My army opened my life to the world, and as a veteran, I will continue to fight for this world how ever I can. As a female, I've experienced the misogyny, sexism, assault and harassment. I will fight for a better future. As a Jewish atheist, I've experienced other forms of discrimination, harassment and outright fear. I will fight for a better future for others. As someone who has run for office and tried to navigate the political system, I've discovered that politicians of any ilk are not going to save us. They're not going to fight for us. They may start out believing that's why they're getting into politics, but that isn't the reality down the road. They're going to save their own skins, protect their own families, follow their own interests. Not ours. We have to find a better way. A different way.

I follow a number of Substacks and being a low income senior I obviously can't be a paid subscriber. I did take advantage of Andy Borowitz' huge discount on one so I could vote in his hilarious Quisling contest (Mitch McConnell won, without that douchebag Trump would have been removed from office and we wouldn't be here now).

I greatly appreciate your perspective as well as the topics you cover that the mainstream "press" is ignoring. Thank you and I hope the paid subs increase!

Gruyere topic notwithstanding, your Dad Joke is pretty gouda.
