VIDEO: Israeli Military Opens Fire at Dozens of Diplomats
Days after numerous nations threaten sanctions against Israel for war crimes, the Israeli military fired at diplomats from 31 nations including Canada, UK, & Egypt
The Israeli government continues to escalate violence against anyone who stands in its way. This includes civilians, journalists, and now diplomats. According to The Guardian, Israeli troops opened fire—what they called “warning shots”—at a delegation of 25 diplomats visiting the occupied West Bank. Israel called it an “inconvenience” and that they’re “investigating,” which historically is code for no one will face accountability for this crime. Let’s be clear: this was not a rogue soldier. These were armed Israeli troops firing upon ambassadors and diplomats representing 31 countries. This deliberate intimidation is a microcosm of the greater injustices the Israeli government has long imposed upon Palestinians—who are now on the brink of total starvation. Let’s Address This.
The “Only Democracy in the Middle East” Is Firing At Diplomats
On May 21, 2025, Israeli forces fired "warning shots" at a delegation of 25 diplomats visiting Jenin in the occupied West Bank. The diplomats, representing 31 countries including the UK, Canada, Egypt, and Jordan, were on an official mission organized by the Palestinian Authority to observe humanitarian conditions. Israel claimed the group deviated from an approved route—a common lie they’ve used in the past to justify killing innocent people. But even if their claim is true, so what? Occupied Palestine is still Palestine. It is not Israel. Israel has no legal authority or right to be there.
Moreover, this act of aggression against international diplomats, especially days after many of those nations threatened sanctions against Israel for war crimes, further underscores the oppressive nature of the Israeli occupation. I have been to Occupied Palestine. I have walked those streets. I have seen the way IDF checkpoints slice through neighborhoods like gashes. I have spoke with fathers who described how their homes were bulldozed, and children too afraid to sleep at night because they might be next. What these diplomats experienced was not a glitch in the system—it is the system.
Western Nations Threaten Sanctions
This brazen act of aggression comes just 48 hours after the UK, France, and Canada issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s war crimes. They stated:
The Israeli Government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable and risks breaching International Humanitarian Law. We condemn the abhorrent language used recently by members of the Israeli Government, threatening that, in their despair at the destruction of Gaza, civilians will start to relocate. Permanent forced displacement is a breach of international humanitarian law.
The leaders warned of "further concrete actions" including sanctions if Israel did not cease its military offensive and lift restrictions on humanitarian aid.
And how did Netanyahu respond? He reignited airstrikes on Gaza, broke the already fragile ceasefire, continued the blockade on food and aid, and then opened fire on international diplomats.
Let us be absolutely clear on this: Israel's actions violate international humanitarian law, specifically the Fourth Geneva Convention, which mandates that an occupying power must ensure the provision of food and medical supplies to the population. Israel’s violations include:
Article 49 – forbidding forcible transfer or deportation of protected persons
Article 51 – protecting civilian labor from coercion
Article 55 – requiring provision of food and medical supplies
Article 56 – requiring medical and public health services
Article 59 – mandating relief schemes if occupied populations are inadequately supplied
Israel is at minimum violating every single one of these obligations. The international community must hold Israel accountable for these violations, or this genocide will continue to escalate until the full ethnic cleansing of Gaza is completed.
Starvation Is A War Crime
Meanwhile, despite the stern warnings from the aforementioned nations, Israel reignited bombing campaigns in Gaza, breaking the ceasefire agreement. The UN reports a catastrophic humanitarian crisis:
Aid partners on the ground in Gaza report that the number of hot meals served by those community kitchens that are still operating is declining very quickly. Today, about 260,000 meals have been prepared and delivered across the Gaza Strip. That marks a decrease compared to 840,000 meals last Wednesday – a 70 percent reduction of 580,000 daily meals in just five days.
Furthermore, UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher warned that 14,000 babies in Gaza could die within 48 hours if urgent aid is not delivered. He described the limited aid allowed into Gaza as a "drop in the ocean" and emphasized the dire need for immediate humanitarian assistance. Why was their more outrage over the fabricated claim that Hamas beheaded 40 babies, than their is on the real life catastrophe of 14,000 more babies on the cusp of death by starvation (in addition to the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians already killed by Israeli bombing)?
And the United States? Still complicit. Still funding this genocide. Still sending billions of dollars in military aid to Netanyahu’s regime. We are at a breaking point. You cannot look at these facts and claim this is “complicated.” You cannot fire on diplomats and claim to be a democracy. You cannot starve children and call yourself the victim.
Conclusion
Finally, as someone who has witnessed the conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories firsthand, I can attest to the suffocating nature of the occupation. The recent targeting of diplomats is not an isolated incident but part of a broader pattern of intimidation and oppression. We must continue to raise our voices, advocate for justice, and demand that our governments cease funding and supporting these actions. So, if you’ve ever wondered what you would have done during the world’s darkest hours, you’re doing it now. This is why I incessantly ask you to your voice. Demand your Member of Congress stop funding genocide.
