Thank you for your work Rashid and this article. Iโm old enough to remember Camp David. Australians marched in their hundreds of thousands to persuade our govt. to recognise Palestine, end the genocide and stand again for a two state solution. They did. There were young Aussies on that flotilla, arrested in international waters. Perhaps the outcry about their imprisonment may bring attention to the numbers of Palestinians imprisoned by the Israeli govt. I appreciate all your harrowing figures. Quotable. ๐๐บ๐ฆ๐บ
Per Refaat, he made clear that it was her lies and demonization that would lead to his execution. He was right. I hope she faces the appropriate legal measures of justice one day. She's a modern day Carolyn Bryant.
I think what Bibi fails to realize is that in the last two years, hatred of Jews (not that it's fair) has multiplied exponentially around the world and in the US, despite Trump's, AIPAC's and Bibi's insane babbling. People who don't have the time (or inclination) to study this genocide end up blaming "the Jews" rather than Bibi's right wing extremist government. We live in an age where people jump to conclusions based on headlines (often written by someone other than the person covering the event) and immediately reposting to go viral. Just as I don't believe a word from Trump's yap, I have no confidence anything Bibi says has any validity. He won't be happy till he controls all of Palestine . . . and then he'll keep going.
These facts I was already aware of. Now to cause outrage, I will suggest that Isreal be bombed off the map. Either that or, Butcher Bibi be eradicated like Charlie Kirk was.
The journey of peace is long and arduous, but if we stray from the path we're lost. Thank you for your persistent dedication to our collective survival, Qasim.
Looking at the figures put me in mind of the years leading up to Oct 7 when Israel repeatedly attacked Gaza in a process Israelis called mowing the grass.
The entire history of Zionist occupation of Palestine explains all of the actions Palestinians have taken over 76 years to oppose what is being done to them, including Oct 7. The American Indians who fought the white man for exactly the same reason, for taking their land, are now considered heroic. Without outside intervention, the Palestinian effort will meet the same fate as that of the American Indians.
The trouble with any violent action by the Palestinians is that Israel welcomes it as it plays to their strength in unlimited military force. What has happened to Gaza in the last two years is the proof of this. Palestinian violent opposition has always been an excuse for Israel to go on a rampage of disproportionate response.
The danger to Israel is internal. Just as Israelis feared the growth of the Palestinian population, the growth of the ultra-orthodox population within Israel is a fear of the non-orthodox who see endless accommodations being made by the government to please the ultra-orthodox. This is a division that will not go away, the haredim (ultra-orthodox) being as fanatic as the settlers, but will not prevent further punishment of the Palestinians.
That's exactly it -- the years, decades leading up to 10/7 are always ignored and washed away as if they're no big deal. It's an injustice upon injustice.
I've known about Israel apartheid for years, but did not know about the kidnappings and indefinite incarceration of palestinians. in my opinion, israel is much worse than nazi Germany.
from now on, I will refer to israel as the ultimate, unbeatable horror. they BEAT the nazis at disgusting horribleness.
in my opinion: give israel back.
deport israel citizens to where their DNA says they belong.
I agree with you that Israel has committed horrible atrocities and that they must be held accountable for the tens of thousands of innocent people's deaths. Yet I disagree that deporting the 10+ million Israeli citizens is the answer. I'm in agreement with Qasim here: two-state solution that is fair and equitable to Palestinians and Israelis; a Marshall Plan to rebuild Gaza; imprisonment for Netanyahu and all of his murderous collaborators; and freedom for the wrongly incarcerated Palestinians who were afforded no due process, no trials, no nothing. Both Palestinians and Israelis deserve nothing less than justice and equality and restoration.
I would suggest we need to hear more from Israeli citizens about what they want. I have a (Jewish) friend who has lived in TelAviv for decades who says she is tired of being bombed and worrying about Hamas' commitment to the obliteration of all Jews. She has always supported the rights of Palestinians, but only sees an end if Hamas is destroyed. Which, of course, will not be an end, but that's how she feels as she heads to the bomb shelter with her invalid husband, yet again.
I have zero interest in speaking up for, or defending Hamas. I would instead ask her how she would react to a nuclear powered military occupying her home and forcing her to live in apartheid conditions? Hamas didn't exist for the first 40 years of Israel's occupation of Palestine. It's a reaction to illegal occupation, and it was well funded by Netanyahu for years. Where is that accountability?
I hope I don't sound stupid for asking this, but why did Netanyahu bankroll Hamas in the first place? What good did he think would Hamas possibly do for Israel or Israelis? My guess is that he did it to dilute the power of the PA and Mahmoud Abbas, but I'm not sure if I'm getting that info mixed up. :(
Not at all a stupid question. Because you're right, on the surface it doesn't make sense. But as you dig into it you see why. He propped up Hamas on purpose to undermine the PLO and to justify his blood lust to continue to bomb Gaza and make Palestinians be seen as a threat on the international stage. Manufactured outrage. This much is not my opinion, but the testimony of his own generals and own Israeli media. https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/
Thanks for adding clarity--I do hope that, sooner than later, Netanyahu meets the bar of justice and pays for what he has done to so many innocent lives.
"As a human rights lawyer, I will always stand for justice for Israel and justice for Palestine, where every Israeli civilian and child is safe, and every Palestinian civilian and child is safe. That is the only path forward."
I'd be really interested to know how you propose that this be achieved? Israel is an apartheid expansionist state and commonsense dictates that it cannot and will never "exist in peace" with Arab neighbors let alone with an Arab population inhabiting what it consideres to be it's "lawful" territory. I truly tried to wrap my head around that concept your statement and afraid that the cognitive dissonance is just too much for my brain to process.
Clarification on this score is sorely needed and I'm hopeful that it will be forthcoming.
I've written on this extensively over the years. We have international human rights law, the ICC, and ICJ. They need to be empowered to act and enforce international law. The UN Security Council should have its veto power removed so that justice can be served. That veto power is a cancer on protecting justice.
That's not answering the question of Israel's existence as an apartheid state. This is both siding it and unfortunately makes no sense whatsoever. Israel, as an apartheid state cannot and will not be able to coexist with a "Palestinian State" and the other point is how would you envision a two state solution at this time when expansion in the West Bank has rendered this absolutely impossible?
Qasim with trump and his son-in-law in Israel to oversee the "peace negotiations" you must be aware that any promises made by trump or Netanyahu won't be worth the paper they're written on. Once Hamas has release the hostages, the IDF will kill any remaining Palestinians because they want the land and they hate the people. What difference will it make to them if the courts say he's violating a human rights court. It won't mean anything. He was a wanted criminal who went to the Oval Office recently and was feted by your president. Does that not tell you that the scheme those guys are cooking up in Gaza along with an ex Brit PM Blair is going to mean nothing to them. Btw Tony Blair owns TBI (Tony Blair Institute) which is a "junk-tank" which has received at least $1B from Larry Ellison a zionist Israeli owner of Oracle and who has also bought TikTok. These are deadly bedfellows. As Palestinians are about to find out.
Yes. I have been asking the same question and frequently posted this question in the notes and occasionally on my own substack.
Thank you for doing all this research ! I canโt express how grateful I am for you!
Brilliant and well-documented. Thank you.

What a beautiful poem! Powerful.
It moves me to tears every time I read it and think about his children.

Thank you for your trust and support, David.

Administration
Yep, hence why I made that clear statement at the end that we've been here before, sadly.
