The Hank you. We can never become complacent. The Civil Rights Act was never fully enacted or embraced. This country has never had Liberty and Justice for All. Not once in our 250 year history. This country was founded on white supremacy and remains that way today.

Excellent post! I never thought that racism would be this rampant in this century as it is! I was hoping it had died down a bit, but it has come back with a vengeance to rear it ugly head of hate all because the color of your skin. Both my parents are dead and gone in heaven, and they would be absolutely horrified by how awful it has become again. They grew up when racism was just a part of life and it never should have been both. My parents hated that and I was raised that there’s good and bad in all races does not matter the color of your skin. And to quote Dr. King it’s the content of your character. Dr. King’s I have a dream speech is so much more meaningful today than even at the time he gave it. I pray that someday this will get better, but I don’t know, especially when we have such evil in this administration.

Thank you, as always, for such clear analysis with receipts, Qasim! I feel sick to my stomach reading this particular article, but moved to do my part to make our society better.

“Pete Hegseth stripped nine Navy officers—including women and Black service members—from a promotion list, resulting in an all-male, overwhelmingly white slate of 22 nominees”

Any of those 22 who did not object, who accepted their own promotions, rather than turning them down, have shown they lack the honor that the military likes to (usually falsely) claim it reveres.

“Leave no man behind!” unless they’re black or female.

I am truly shocked about George Stinney's case just as I was shocked about the not guilty verdict ( a month ago?) for that shop keeper. I could not and still cannot understand how anybody, who shoots somebody in the back, can not be guilty of coldblooded murder! I don't care if or what they might have stolen- murdering someone for a material loss is just WRONG and INHUMANE! Justice delayed is still Justice denied.

Right now, being associated with America, only causes me shame and grief for our victims!

Our history makes it impossible to defend the current behavior of our government. Absolutely no reason to be proud of anything we do today without addressing the facts of the past.

Great article, Sir!

I wish every college student and young person in general could read this very informative piece.

I'm surprised that Eleanor Roosevelt didn't put pressure on her husband to invite Mr. Owens to the White House; she was way ahead of him when it came to the rights of Black Americans.

Thank you for this piece. I appreciate the work you do to keep us informed. I learned about George Stinney and Cyrus Carmack-Belton. Earlier today, I heard a report about how police in Mississippi killed a 1-year old boy after a shoplifting call at a Walmart. The little boy's mother and a family friend were seen walking out of the store with a package of diapers. Police opened fire on their car as they tried to leave the parking lot.

That this country cannot summon the outrage to, en masse, confront this regime at the White House is true testament to our so comfortable lives. It is only some of "the people" and those like yourself, Qasim, who are trying to warn us that we're heading into a harsh dictatorship. Not enough. That tarp over JFK's name says it all: you WILL be controlled and no one WILL DO anything about it. What else can you expect from a government that takes down a portrait of a decorated soldier for this country because he's Black. The country has lost all meaning.

We are so complicit. It’s a source of shame!

Frankly if Trump doesn’t like it it’s probably a very good thing after all this is a guy who worships Hitler and Putin or any vile humans like himself!

The only way this country will ever be great is if we the people destroy all racists. Racists are the epitome of stupidity and do not deserve to exist alongside the rest of us.

As a nation, we should be ashamed. The World Cup is supposed to be a time where we can all come together to cheer our teams. I have so looked forward to it… but not this year. From the FIFA Peace Prize to our disgraceful policy on teams and referees, we should not be hosting. Un-f**king believe. Sorry, but other adjectives do not accurately capture my thoughts right now.

Justice delayed is indeed justice denied!

Qasim, you're my hero. Can you arrange it so I can buy you a coffee sometimes? I live on a tiny Social Security check and shouldn't risk any regular deductions from it - they might bounce and cost me an overdraft fee. If I come into that million dollars so many Americans somehow expect, you're getting a great big chunk of it, however! Thanks for everything!

You're too kind! I'm grateful for your graciousness.
