Having to re-register is bullshit. I do mail-in voting and have done for years here in the UK. Before each election a receive a letter asking me if anything has changed as to my name (incase of marital status) address etc. I also don't have to do anything unless those things have changed. I will continue to receive my ballot with a Stamped Self Addressed Envelope! When there's a General Election I am sometimes asked to forward a photo of my signature. No Problem. I wonder how the military of your country stationed abroad are taking this? They are the ones trump needs in time of the war he now wants to start in order to remain in office. What a joke! I've been voting by mail since I moved to Canada years ago. And I've always voted Democratic and never for Trump. So US citizens wouldn't be able to vote if they're in a other country?
This is a real problem for Americans living overseas. Democrats Abroad has flagged this as a major concern. The SAVE Act already attempts to disenfranchise women, and now the PROVE act currently in the House seeks to disenfranchise Americans living abroad. Naturally, nothing is being done to address the tax situation for those of us living outside of the US.
Sounds like it - unless you were willing to travel to stand in line to vote. And more than likely you'd be challenged and have to prove your bona fides - so start collecting all your documents!

I had to laugh. ON POINT from WBUR, a program I usually think is very well done, had an episode on about the poor folks in Alaska who may lose many of their public radio stations because Trump ended funding for NPR. Many are the ONLY station these people have. It's a bright Red state. They voted for Trump and have also complained that all the programs on NPR are about LGBTQ issues. Not true. So they are voting to their own detriment. And, like with all things Trump, they just do not see it.
I worked élections for ten or so years after retiring. I saw and worked with all the various ways that both the vote was protected and the voters were given options on how to vote so that they could vote—early voting, Election Day voting, and Mail in voting. There is also special needs voting if a voter finds that he or she is, let’s say, hospitalized and can’t get to the polling place. There is always an ID requirement and a computer history that must match. Anything questionable and a voter completes a ballot and info sheet that is scrutinized (the info not the vote itself) and determined to be authentic or not. But it is so easy for someone wanting to be king and working for VP to attack our voting system. The GOP needs to get a grip on themselves and come out loud and clear for democracy and the rights of all to due process. At present they are allowing a barbaric regime threaten us all.
I worked as an election judge for the first time last year, and I was also very impressed with how many fail safes there are in our election system. (Poll workers are called election judges where I live).
I sometimes encourage folks who wonder about voting safety to volunteer so they can see how safe it is. I wonder now though with the tech growth if some might be able to fiddle with the machines. We always set them up locally and tested them. And the counting was done locally and not hooked up to the Internet. I am so sorry that some politicians are still thinking 2020 was rigged.
