our concern is compounded by the fact that there are Democrat AND Republican legislators without the testicular predisposition to stand up and say NO to the SAVE Act, but instead cave in to fear and threats without publicly calling these threats out

Thank you for calling out this important issue

So this is what it has come to. They realize that they can’t win honestly, so they have to steal it. I am beyond appalled at these gestures. Not surprised, however. Their fiendish plans are in the open and the corporate media couldn’t care less. Thanks for this article, Qasim!

With Manchin and Sinema gone, I hold out hope we can restore and improve the rights gutted by the Supreme Court, including voting rights and to shut down gerrymandering on the state level on down. Political gerrymandering being shrugged upon is hollowing out democracy as well.

Thanks for bring this to our attention. This is huge a power play by trump to try to force us to pass a national law that will eliminate millions of votes which will help him win. NO. NO. NO. Let them take heat for shutting down government. They do this almost every year anyway.

Thank you Qasim. unfortunately the representative for me is ahem on board with them so a call will not help. fyi the SAVE act name is counting on people going with the acronym rather than what the act would do… the “diversion names” for legislation began long ago - pacifying some? the first that i recall was reagan’s “Healthy Forests Initiative “ which allowed clear cuts ( decimating ) for many acres including along stream banks affecting fisheries habitats. we need civics in high schools again, and for them to include decoding Truth.

Thanks for reading. Yes, politicians often pick a comfortable name for a shameless stripping down of our rights. "Citizens United" brought in a flood of corporate money into politics, all but decimating our democracy.

I’m writing off the top of my head. I thought in my naive brain that this was illegal. Why even vote? Why even have a government? Why pretend that Republicans are members of a functioning democracy? Why are we still tolerating this? Why do the bidding of an ex President who is nothing more than an international monster? Why give this egregious non entity a voice in our halls of government? Why do Republicans comply? What are they guilty of? Weak, undisciplined, fearful, Hitler following fucks!

Thanks Qasim for being the voice of reason and bringing attention to these matters to the public. I will reach out to elected officials with this post.

So now one must have a birth certificate to vote? Then of course one must have picture ID, then a marriage license to show where one changes their name. What if one was adopted, what if one is trans gender? What if you are in witness protection? Once you are registered to vote, all those things are already addressed. So…WTF!!! They will do anything to not do their jobs! Howdy dooty needs to go now!! And the democrats need not save his punkass this time!

Qasim Rashid, Esq.'s avatar

Yep. This terrible act is designed to cause chaos. It’s dictatorship, not democracy.

When I first read about this, Common Cause mentioned that some people (Black and/or Southern) may not have ever HAD a birth certificate because they weren't born in a hospital. We gotta be looking out for all of these!

katsden's avatar

if there was a medical provider - midwife, nurse, doctor- the provider would have been required to register the birth. the two children of mine born at home received birth certificates.

I agree with you. You are so right. The one thing about the republicans is that when they do stupid things like this voting save, they really don’t think things through!

Less than 50 days out from the election and the GOP is going to shutdown the government to prove they can't govern. They don't have enough votes on their own side to advance the bill.

The responsibility for this shut down vote, as with all others, is directly on those who are willing to put their personal beliefs and wants above the needs of our country and all Americans, which includes those Americans who voted in those MAGA Republicans.

I love wearing this in front of Republicans! 👇

Very troubling, but not surprising MAGA tactic. Thank you Qasim.

YW. This is MAGA par for the course. They're relentless in their pursuit of establishing fascism.
