I care about all the world's children, of course, .... but selfishly, I am so glad that I do not have to deal with this, ... as my "children" are in their 50s, grown, and vaccinated. I'll keep fighting against this insane monster of a man.

Thank you. Nice to hear information from some medical experts rather than the half-baked ramblings from current HHS officials with no medical experience.

The fact that illesses flourish in the US will affect europe also due to travel. I know the average American never leave their home state. So it may not cause a health crisis in Europe. Also because the average American can't afford to travel either. And tourism is down. So that is ironically the bottleneck.

Qasim,

I truly believe Jr. to be the most dangerous of all of the morons, miscreants, misfits, douche bags, turds, and good-for-nothings employed by the Trump regime. His willful ignorance, buffoonery, embrace of junk science and quackery around vaccines, and malice may very well lead to tens of millions of Americans needlessly getting sick and dying of preventable diseases.

Jr. could barely bring himself to condemn the horrific murder of Dekalb County police officer David Rose that was committed on August 8 of this year on the main campus of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, GA by a deranged man who believed his disinformation about vaccines.

Jr. is an anti-vax crank, sexual deviate, and all around f_____ who is a clear and present danger to himself and the American people whose health he is responsible for helping to protect.

And the wayward son of a great American patriot and black sheep of the venerated Kennedy political family.

Each & every appointment that dear leader has "forced on us", has NO KNOWLEDGE about the job they have undertaken! The head of HHS should be an experienced medical professional - not some 3rd rate ex-heroin addict with a brain worm! Trump has done this on purpose - he wants us ALL dead - look at what he did during COVID! Look at the foolishness of bombing Iran! Look at his failure to stop Putin. Look at the roll back of environmental protections! We are not even a year into this term - people are dying & going to continue to die because of his lack of leadership, lack of understanding & lack of any connection to other humans!

I agree that he doesn't care how many people die. He believes he and his billionaire buddies will be able to pay for good healthcare and all other amenities for themselves - as happens in other autocracies. Nothing else matters.

More sensible than the local anti vax home schoolers hosting "Inoculation Parties" whenever one of the kids gets a new, often undiagnosed infection. A few lethal or disabling transmissible diseases were tolerable before the human population was able to travel quickly across greater distances, often before symptoms manifest.

I just got my 2025 Covid vaccine, no problem. I live in New Mexico, another blue state that has made vaccines available based on state public health guidance, so RFK Jr.'s wacky ideas don't affect us (except that we're next door to Texas, so actually, there's a big effect.) I feel bad for people who live in states where governors don't stand up for them and protect them. Your governor is more important than ever these days.

I had an appointment with my primary care doctor today. The first thing she asked was whether I am planning on visiting the US soon. Since I'm not, we could get on to other medical stuff. These days, I need to be sure I have all my vaccines up-to-date before going to the US. Very similar to what I used to have to do visiting medically dangerous countries in the past.

Ok, I'm definitely in favor of most vaccines, but what is the harm in getting rid of thimerosal in flu shots? Even if it's a small amount of mercury, isn't it better not to have mercury? Isn't there anything other than mercury that works as a preservative? And do new born babies really need hepatitis B shots? I remember being a bit shocked when my daughter was born and that was one they gave her right away - within an hour or so. Last I heard hep B is spread by unsafe sex and dirty needles. Since when was my baby at risk of that? Maybe wait a few years.

I guess my point is that by being so doctrinaire about vaccine recommendations the medical establishment risks turning people against them. Vaccines have done so much good, but also some harm. Be honest about it.

Elizabeth,

The flu shots are safe and effective and have saved literally hundreds of millions of lives throughout the world. And they have also prevented a myriad number of needless hospitalizations in the U.S., have prevented needless suffering here, and have saved American taxpayers tens of billions of dollars in medical expenses.

But, if a chemical comes along that is as good as Thimerosal when it comes to preventing contamination in multi-dose vials of the flu vaccine, I have no problem replacing it in those flu shots in order to be extra cautious.

Expand full comment
Becky Anne Bauer's avatar

Thimerosal was only used in multi-dose vials of the flu vaccine to prevent contamination, aka microbial growth. It was not in single-dose vials. If patients were concerned about the Thimerosal they could ask for a single-dose vial. As to your question re the Hep B vaccine given shortly after birth, there are other ways to contract Hep B although the anti-vaxers base their arguments on the sex and drug aspects because they're more sensational.

If a mother is infected, and no, not all test results are accurate, she can pass the Hep B infection along to the baby during birth. It's possible once that baby grows a bit and begins exploring he/she picks up the toothbrush or piece of silverware, something the infected adult recently used, and puts it in his/her mouth. Might also be an infected child at daycare with whom the he/she shares a pop-sickle when teacher's not looking. Hep B is a nasty, potentially fatal disease with no cure. If you ever meet someone with Hep B you'll understand why the Hep B vaccine is given shortly after birth.

Elizabeth's avatar

So what I've heard about hep B had nothing to do with anti-vaxxers. It was when I thought I might want to be a medical lab assistant, and went through a phlebotomy program at a local community college. With all those needles, we were required to get hep B shots even though at that time it wasn't recommended for the general population. The teachers in the program said hep B was mostly spread through unsafe sex and needles. Maybe it could theoretically get passed at daycare, but my impression was that it wasn't actually likely.

I'm not at all an anti-vaxxer. I've had all recommended shots - more than I can count. But I do think the pro-vax side has said and done some things that are a bit questionable, and hurt their own cause. And hep B for newborns is one of them.

I don’t agree with him on everything, particularly his stance on Zionism, but I would suggest that he is not, in fact, an anti- vaxxer.

That term is used to discredit anyone who dares question the dogma of vaccines. And it shuts down conversation. He is extremely measured and looking for the middle ground in regards to vaccines. Children’s Health Defence, an organization that he founded has done incredible work on exposing the dangers behind the present vaccination schedule.

I hold your work in high esteem and would hope to be able to discuss difficult topics like the safety and efficacy of vaccines.

It is downright reckless for anyone to spread disinformation about the safety and efficacy of vaccines and is not something that self-respecting people should have debates with anyone about.

If you don’t have a death wish and want to live to be reasonably old then get vaccinated.

Are you aware of RFK Jr.'s anti-vax history including traveling to Samoa in 2018 to push his anti-vax agenda after the deaths of two babies following their one-year MMR vaccination? His campaign of sowing fear and mistrust resulted in over 3,000 people there contracting measles because they weren't vaccinated. The 80 who died during the Samoan measles epidemic were mostly children.

As for the two babies whose deaths were spun into the worn out anti-vax spiel, they did die shortly after receiving the measles vaccine because two nurses reconstituted the MMR vaccine with muscle relaxant instead of sterile water. The nurses were ultimately sentenced to 5 years in prison.
