A Ceasefire Is Necessary But Alone Insufficient — Recognition, Aid, & Accountability Must Follow. Sign the petition to demand the United States recognize Palestinian statehood.
The devil is in the details. I'm glad for a ceasefire, but long experience has taught me to be cautious. I don't trust Isr@el and I don't trust the US federal government in this matter. If I'm wrong, I'll be pleased!
Mr. Rashid, are you sure this will work? Or will Israel keep murdering people immediately? Also, would it be OK if I left a message to my (disgusting) Congressmen instead of calling someone who will respond?
What concerns me, among many things, here is that when Trump and Bibi spoke to the Press after last week's meeting, Bibi said in Hebrew (after speaking in English) something like "this will not work". And I've heard nothing about that now. Those words just stick in my mind and worry me.
Yeah, they do that a lot, apparently. In English they claim to be reasonable. In Hebrew they say the nasty bits. Translation programs make it easier ti find out what they really mean.
Trump, fortunately, is enough of a bully to make it work if he wants to. Bibi pushed Biden around, but Trump won't stand for it. Not that I trust Trump either, not as far as I could throw him.
We can't trust Trump, and we absolutely can't trust Netanyahu. That's why we need a multinational force to make sure peace happens, from the countries that have endorsed peace and a Palestinian state. I think Hamas should agree to that and even to disband because such a force can protect the Palestinians better than Hamas can. Current members of Hamas can always participate in politics later as individuals. The force should not come only from Arab countries but from other UN countries that have recognized a Palestinian state, including France and Britain, and should be willing and able to fight Israel and defeat if if it comes to that.
Israel must withdraw its forces from every inch of Gaza and do it as soon as possible. It may be too late to insist on immediate withdrawal, but a gradual withdrawal (if it is complete) is better than none and can be overseen by the international force. Work should begin towards a two-state solution, which is the only realistic path and would give peace to both countries, as soon as it reasonably can. Abbas will do for now as president, but elections should begin soon and be held regularly, and we must never stop insisting on the release of Marwan Barghouti, whom even a neutral publication like the Christian Science Monitor praises and calls "the Palestinian Mandela." I've read that he is imprisoned for crimes he did not commit. He is realistic enough to be content with two states. If freed, he could give the Palestinians the leader they need. We should never forget that a two-state solution is also the only path to security for Israel, and the good Israelis who read Qasim Rashid's articles should never stop pointing that out. Netanyahu MUST lose the next election, and his successor might recognize that releasing Barghouti is also the best thing for Israel. Most of Bibi's political opponents seem to be ready for the two-state solution to become a reality.
I just signed the petition, and it's still below 100 signatures, so spread the word.
Whenever I see you, Qasim, you look thinner and more drained than the previous picture -- you must eat and sleep, and perhaps meditate to calm your soul. I know the Palestinian State is dear to your heart, but you also must take care of yourself, live.
I am cynical about "the deal." Happy there is a ceasefire, and I hope to see aid flowing in, ... but I'll believe this deal, when I see the harder parts done, Hamas disarming?, a better gov't in Gaza? ... can anything REAL happen while Netanyahu is still in power? (and how can he be, with the Israeli people against him). sorry, I shouldn't throw cold water on this, when it's been many decades getting to this point.
Thoughtful reasoning. Those who care about PEOPLE, must keep their eyes open and their voices heard. Never let up on those who are abused by the more powerful.
It is imperative that Palestine is recognised as a sovereign state, as Trump appears not to be offering a peace plan but a redevelopment plan.
Are you aware of the "GREAT (Gaza Reconstitution, Economic Acceleration and Transformation) Trust" plan for Gaza, Qasim? It includes The Elon Musk Smart Manufacturing Zone, The American Data Safe Haven, and Gaza Trump Riviera and Islands. The plan was published in both the Financial Times and the Washington Post.
Signed and donated Qasim. The "peace" deal is further subjugation for all of Palestine. I know it will be a long time (and likely not seen in my lifetime) before our government moves in the direction of and liberation of Palestine. But we can't stop now. We have seen chips in the AIPAC-dominated system of government that we have.
…and peace for Israel? WTF! They haven’t slowed down their attacks in the West Bank.

100% agree.
I fully expect that after all the hostages are released this thing will fall apart and the genocide/ land grab will continue to the conclusion.
Israeli hostages. The Palestinian hostages will remain as hostages. Of course.
I don't think so. Why would Israel want to keep paying for the costs of keeping prisoners when they could send them home to be killed?
Not New Zealand. And not Greece. Two of the more surprising ones.
Free Palestine
trump doesn't want statehood. he wants Gaza for his own use. I don't trust him and definitely don't trust netanyahu.
It’s way past time for a Palestinian State, and I’m afraid this orange man’s peace plan does not include recognizing one.

No I'm not confident because I don't trust Netanyahu or Trump. But that's why we need to elevate our pressure while we can.
Once again, thank you. Petition signed.
Why (if you know) hasn't the U.S. recognized Palestine's statehood?
Because AIPAC.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the partitioning of Palestine in '48 by the UN a two-state partition?
Thomas Friedman said "listen to what Bibi says in Hebrew, not what he says in English."

And why the hell should Hamas disarm if the IDF doesn't? I know what you mean, though. It's hard to trust.
We need to keep demonstarting and calling and trying to keep pressure on. Maybe that will help.
Thoughtful reasoning. Those who care about PEOPLE, must keep their eyes open and their voices heard. Never let up on those who are abused by the more powerful.
Over 300 now, so thank you for helping it get there!
Netanyahu won't be in power forever. Hopefully not after the elections that they say will be held next year.
Doesn’t sound like a “peace plan” at all. How can people be so uninformed? Petition signed from Canada

Yeah, this is exactly what I'm worried about. We need to ensure Palestinians lead the reconstruction of Gaza.
And the West pays for it.
💯
Thank you. Petition signed and other actions will be taken.
Thank you Jennifer.

I appreciate you. Thank you for leading from the front.
