It seems to me that Dr. El Sayed has plenty of qualifications. I’m a retired registered nurse and I see nothing wrong with him. But, I’m telling you, I’m getting sick and tired of the racism in our country. And bso-called demented president isn’t helping matters AT ALL!!
I donated to McMorrow in the beginning but have now decided that El Sayed is not only the best but the right choice! Have now donated even more to him!
In NY you must be licensed to use the title physician. In Michigan the law is less clear.
But all of that is less important than him sharing stories of his knowledge of problems in health care based on experience managing patients. (“I’m the only one on this stage…….”). One story was about caring for a woman in NY which showed him that the system is the problem.
There is nothing wrong with concluding that the system is the problem. It is. Lots of docs go to med school and realize that preventing the need for Band-Aids is better than putting them on. They have a lot to give to public health. But he shouldn’t couch the expertise that he would bring to the US Senate in having done patient care, titles aside.
I think you are trying to avoid getting her campaigns wrath toward you, but if she is willing to make that baldfaced, horrible lie, then she is a racist. I don't think you can separate the person from the bigotry. Maybe if she accidentally repeated it from somewhere else before confirming, it could be an ignorant mistake. But she ORIGINATED the lie. That to me is unforgivable and proves there is not much difference between the overall strategies of both of these establishment parties.
McMorrow is my state senator and I’d happily voted for her and thought she would be a good candidate for US senate. I was horrified when I saw her campaign personally attack El-Sayed’s credentials. Thank you for showing the through line of the racist attacks and whom McMorrow has working for her. I’d voted for El-Sayed in the 2018 gubernatorial primary and am excited to vote for him again this year.
McMorrow is another politician selling out to AIPAK. Money paid to ensure that some members of our leadership will ignore the wholesale slaughter, rape, and torture of defenseless people including women, children, and babies. Who will provide the weapons to use in the mass murder.
I am in no way antisemitic.I am anti cruelty and brutality against defenseless people and innocent babies. Smart Americans will not elect more AIPAK members of the House or Senate. The lack of humanity has gone too far.
After the article I read regarding McMorrow stating that Abdul El Sayed is not7 a doctor I am here to clarify that I wrote, Abdul El Sayed is not a licensed medical doctor.
He is however a doctor not once but twice. This indicates immense commitment and fortitude. I have admired Abdul before reading about him here. After finishing medical school he decided that he could do more good through researching epidemiology to help save lives. It is predicted animal viruses will mutate and jump to human beings.
Imagine a politician who is willing to walk away from the future wealth and status of being a Medical Doctor, to protect the health and safety of everyone. Sounds good to me.
I live in Michigan and met Abdul when he ran for governor in '18. Before I even knew who he was, he came up and started a conversation with me. We had a great conversation before I asked him his name and where he was from. We also need HUMILITY in our next Senator. That interaction was with a man who was interested to know what I cared about before he ever promoted himself as a gubernatorial candidate.
Another beef with McMorrow: she bragged in an interview with Heather Cox Richardson "I never ran for anything! but when Trump was elected, I decided to run for Michigan Senate!"
When she first declared her run for US Senate, I studied her web-site and on it I learned that she does not support the first amendment rights of University of Michigan students who protested for Palestinian rights.
Lastly I will say that at the Michigan Demomcratic Party Convention last month, McMorrow did a stunt that was immature, rude, and caused some people to leave: she marched INSIDE with a very loud marching band, intentionally drowning out any conversations that were going on in the community space where numerous other politicians had tables. Someone in my party is on the autism spectrum and the loud noise inside was more than he could bear. So inconsiderate!
"This is an old, tried, and racist playbook, and it deserves to be called out and discarded." So true. Dr. El-Sayed focusing on his campaign platform is exactly what Major Mamdani did. MM was the adult in the room. May Dr. El-Sayed win. Inshallah🙏.
This is why I find it nearly impossible to support the Democratic party. It’s so full of "centrist" Democrats who are more than happy to fight MAGA's battles for them rather than fighting for the American people. It all started with Hillary Clinton's support for Trump in '16 that so violently backfired on her that you'd think they would say, "Let’s never do that again!" Instead, they do it over and over because they would rather have Trump Republicans in power than a true progressive like Zohran Mamdani.
Quick fact check on one point: Liz Smith has also worked with Obama and Buttigieg. I appreciate your point-of-view, but please don't be selective in the info you provide.
