The incremental advances, so small, or not at all, in justice, .... when the U.S. is invading other nations all over the world!, .... blew my mind. The exception in the 13th Amendment, so that we have a huge labor force..... the sexual abuse, both testicles, and rape of mother, ... gruesome. My response does not adequately express my HORROR at the power given to ICE, etc. There is so much going on that is in direct opposition to our stated values ..... but to see soldiers in our streets, grabbing brown-skinned people out of cars, ..... this is the worst for me. Fascism in our American streets. Though horrible to see and hear about, we MUST, to make the changes we must make to have democracy reign again... or for the first time.
Thanks for the introduction to Conscious Lee. I am struggling to remember if I ever had a black teacher or professor. I don’t think I did until I got was in college for a RN and then later for my NP. And sadly my first degree was from Berkeley where I would hope there would have been more diversity. I do remember the first black MD I went to. He was amazing, excellent bedside manner, so caring and brilliant.
One of my favorite Substackers, Johnathan Larsen (of The Fucking News and Johnathan Larsen's Substack) rarely misses a chance to point out that we got along just fine for 225 years without ICE or DHS. Both of them were born out of a knee jerk (emphasis on jerk) reaction to 9/11, and a smoke test of just how much we would sacrifice on the altar of fear.

Sadly, none of this ICE behavior is new. It didn’t start with Trump. But a critical mass of people see it now. That’s why abolition is the only way forward. We can’t go back. Or we’ll just arrive here again.

Fascism is a word invented by Mussolini, it meant the total militarization of the state, so basically it meant a military dictatorship, but it did NOT include a racist or genocidal intention.
Hitler added in racism, religious intolerance and genocide rebranding Mussolini's fascism into his own hyper conservative form of fascism which he called NAZISM.
The current crop of single party state advocates are both racist and genocidal therefor they are NAZIS, and NOT simple "fascists", that would be too good a term for them, we should say that they are NAZIS because that is what they are.
