I am following suit with Connie! I am disgusted with one of my senators, and several I have been supportive of in the past! My prayers for those slaughtered for eternal peace in knowing they did all they could. Their people are OUR people, their babies, OUR babies!
Qasim, I can't tell you what a gift your column is. Do you realize how many people do not know those Dems you listed voted to continue sending arms and ordnance to Israel? Lots. I wouldn't have known myself if I wasn't reading your work. Cory Booker, how sad. He is finished in my book. Nothing he did in the past or does in future will take that bullet out of that starving child's brain.
This has become War for me. And you are providing information we are not going to get anywhere else.
Unfuckenreal to see every one just sitting back watching the annihilation of an entire population I hope future generations are not as weak as the current leadership of the world
Apparently, the entire Middle East is petrified of the IDF? Perhaps they are just waiting for Netanyahu and gang to self destruct so they can revel in the spoils of a second Jewish diaspora?
If there is a GOD, Israelis may no longer be the Chosen People. Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord.
Complicity comes with fear. All those supporting Netanyahu are tarred and feathered by the fear of being called anti-semitic? What nonsense. The real fear probably comes from losing AIPAC electoral support. I do not know how many Jews in America support Netanyahu but those that do are purely delusional. One man, however corrupt and criminal, aided and abetted by rampaging "settlers", in the long run, cannot preserve the state of Israel. Only Peace with justice can do that.
Al-Sharif's final words are so very human and necessary. Can we be both angry at cruelty and sad at the horrible consequences of cruelty. Yes. Can we hope and work toward ending senseless cruelty? Yes.
This article only brings tears as we receive more information of annihiation. However, tears are for the pain, and our personal commitment to working toward effective solutions, and doing so with the Palestinians, is only re-affirmed.
The horrors here being chosen and done are incomprehensible.
Here is what I have written and sent to my elected representatives:
"Your vote recently [ against SJRes34 and SJRes41 ] constitutes an ethically and rationally not excusable choice of putting America into the position of furthering foreign government and military intentional destruction of Palestinians and other persons in Gaza.
Though you urged for somehow moving humanitarian aid to these people in Gaza along with diplomatic action to halt the violent military actions [ July 30 2025 '...expansion of humanitarian aid, and urge the Trump Administration to resume diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire agreement and end the war ....' ], you provide not any factual and reasoned assumptions and interests explanations for continued US support for those in the Israeli government and IDF who knowingly and increasingly choose civilian slaughter over support of international law and norm.
Any pretense of self-defense is shown to be being used intentionally and willfully to provide a not factual pretext for wanton military slaughter of civilians .
This is a case of government against people; this is multi-state-sponsored annihilation.
This dual and irreconcilable set of propositions is unconscionable, not only in that it makes the US a direct contributor to these horrible and unnecessary civilian slaughters, but it does not reflect a realistic policy basis for cooperation with foreign governments.
Obviously, questions, such as how does the nation of Israel secure its future with nations of its region and in the world and does so within choices and actions of cooperative and not confrontational character and purpose, were left unanswered many many decades ago; this was internationally irresponsible and was a choice made using mere very short term geopolitical and political considerations and a choice completely ignoring real and dangerous pre-existing conflicts, ideological and political, and current conventional but unworkable militarist-imperial assumptions about geopolitical relations solutions.
You have got to do the hard work with us, us Americans, to turn difficult assessment and decision-making corners here. Watching this naked wanton military assault and abetting slaughter of innocents and humanitarian workers [along with others such as journalists, educators, medical services providers...] is not the humanitarian and not the American solution to be offered these people.
Continuing the military arming, re-arming, and furthering sharing of technological sophistication of military armament do not constitute a short- nor long-term set of solutions to bettering understanding of foreign relations choices for reducing violence, for reducing misunderstandings and misinformation, for reducing the likelihood of aggressive warfare and of wanton slaughters and systematic political displacement and de-legitimization.
Is that how you expect Pennsylvania to confront and have relations with Ohio?
How about US with Canada or with Iceland?
Don't try to play us for fools; we are not fools and we are not willing nor capable of turning aside from this brutality and senseless destruction. The Palestinian people, just like the American people, need not less than our full and capable humanity and factual understanding to be working through conflicts in ways and together and with common legitimacy that will provide beginnings of solutions and that will firmly establish perspective on relationships among people anywhere and everywhere that fully respect the humanity and living needs and capacities of individuals.
Again, do not try to confuse and politically hobble us with multiple and conflicting statements, resolutions and unfinished political thinking. You currently don't have a realistic set of solutions at hand. Work with Palestinians, Americans and others who are willing to begin and do the hard, years-long discussions and other work. But immediately, call the wanton violence and illegal aggression what it is and put an end to US military and diplomatic support of these."
That’s tragic. I’m so sorry for his family. Israel sure seems to kill a lot of journalists. It’s notable. How could Democrats stop it? The Republicans are the ones in power right now, who could actually change policy. The Democrats do seem to know it’s a genocide, and all they can do is talk about it, unless you know something I don’t.
I just became a paid subscriber to your sub stack. It was very difficult to read your report through my own tears. I am a 75-year-old black woman who has witnessed a lot of injustice here in America, and this is simply beyond the pale. It is also very painful to feel impotent to effect change as innocent women, children, babies are being starved to death and are being used as target practice; and yet, here in America life just simply goes on as usual: the weekend barbecues, the sweet 16 parties, seemingly unaware of the devastation that is being done in the name of American citizens. My mobility is limited; I live in New York, and if you could provide me with a list of legislators, I will call and email and agitate to the degree that I am able. If you have any other ideas of what I might be able to do, I welcome them. Continue to fight, stay strong.
I want someone to ask this questions of our "leaders": If hamas is a terrorist organization (which it is) and should be condemned for the brutality of 10/7 why aren't we allowed to hold the government of Isreal to a higher standard? As an American I would be appalled to learn my tax $ paid to butcher Isrealis. Why can't I be appalled to see my tax $ slaughter and starve innocent Palestinians?
You’re actually giving too much credit to Democrats. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont offered two amendments suspending sending American made weapons to Israel that it is using to commit genocide against the Palestinians.
Only 24 Democrats voted for both amendments. The Democratic Party, for the most part, much like most of the U.S., is lost. That’s why its national approval rating is 27%. Its own voters hate it.
And this may sound crazy. But we are on the verge in the U.S. of a catastrophe of epic proportions, a hundred times worse than 1968, September 11, Hurricane Katrina, the financial collapse of 2008, and COVID combined.
For those of us who are fortunate enough to survive it, if anyone does survive it, the immensity and intensity of the misery and suffering about to occur here will compel us to reassess our values and be nicer to each other and not facilitate genocides.
I am returning your paid subscription. I do not need support from people denying genocide, promoting disinformation, and pretending that they can do so while insulting people just because they are paid subscribers. My human rights advocacy is based in absolute justice, in demonstrable facts, and in the recognition of the human dignity of all people, Jewish and Muslim, believer and non-believer. If you think you can violate that because you are a paid subscriber, you are deeply misinformed.
I’m not sure why you decided to become a paid subscriber while also defending genocide and accusing me of being “paid by Hamas.” That’s an absurd and outrageous accusation. It’s also an insult to the dozens of leading Jewish and Israeli scholars who call this a genocide. You have zero evidence for your backwards propaganda claims. You can either remove them, or I’m happy to cancel your paid subscription and refund you every penny. Your call.
Everything you’ve said here is crucially important. Urgent. To be acted upon in some way.
I am following suit with Connie! I am disgusted with one of my senators, and several I have been supportive of in the past! My prayers for those slaughtered for eternal peace in knowing they did all they could. Their people are OUR people, their babies, OUR babies!
I feel broken by grief, by betrayal, by the evil present and future that we with eyes and hearts see. Allah, where are you?

Thank you Beatrice. I’m truly honored for your trust.
Thank you for the power of your words and speaking truth to power. This is chilling.

I apologize for being such a Jeremiah.
You're right. Accuracy is key. Thank you for that additional nuance.
😪🙌🏾🙏🏾
I am enraged.
It is late now, but tomorrow I will email my Senators and include snapshots of the donations they have received from AIPAC.
These traitors don’t represent us, only money, while the slaughter of Gaza rages on.
Our government is more than broken, it is amoral, on both sides of the aisle.
Thank you, Solemna.
