A timely piece that forebodingly notes this is all about modern day interpretation and that the Supreme Court is prepared and itching to overturn birthright citizenship once they line up lower court rulings in favor of that being done. It's Trump's America the way that he and his fascist see it.

Both my parents were immigrants from Central America. El Salvador, to be exact, they fled in the middle of a civil war in the 1980s. They came to the US to safely create a new life here. I was born in the US.

I am grateful for attorneys and organizations like the ACLU who are fighting against the fascist government. I am exhausted by the daily attack on law and decency.

Thank you for this. I am an immigrant - by adoption by Americans. I have heard that those adopted and brought to the US are in question as well. It is all so very infuriating.

First of all, how soon will Melania, Ted Cruz, Elon Musk & George Santos be leaving? (To name a few) We can open the gates for every anti-American republican to leave, then slam the door shut! 😁

I'm glad you're in this fight Qasim because when it comes down to it all immigrants who applied for and got citizenship are considered American citizens. Just because you now have a racist prez and a unjust SCOTUS doesn't change the fact. The Constitution was written for these reasons. They may not have known that a little dick racist would have become prez but no matter. The Constitution stays the law of the land. The only people that are exempt are the native Indians who legally, as far as I'm concerned, still owns the land. If they want to fight that battle again they are going to have to go through a more enlightened population. The Natives invited them to "share" not take take it over, don't forget that point! That they committed what amounts to genocide to claim it as "white mans" territory doesn't change that fact.

Thank you for sharing the truth. This regime have no morals, empathy or common sense. They have let their hatred & severe bias destroy so many lives.

You're family story is what made America great. Still does. Still can. We must make sure that it Still Will.

Wong Kim Ark.

Thanks.

I’d even include the offspring of ambassadors/diplomats, at least a dual-citizenship option. If you’re born here, you’re an American.

Thank you, I have signed and I have been supporting the ACLU and Democracy Docket for some time. Now I will share with my network as well. Your essay this morning is very clear and very important.

Your story is my family’s story just a few decades later. With the exception of First Nations, it is every family’s story. We can only hope that this court upholds the constitution and not the cult.

You're forgetting every descendent of slaves.

My father was an immigrant…I was born on American soil …. with dual citizenship …when I was 13 my father had to make a choice Iran or America he did not want me to live an oppressed life so my Iranian citizenship has to be denounced. So this birthright citizenship thing just sounds STUPID AF, everybody knows we are a nation of immigrants. Unless of course you’re Native American if this ridiculous EO gets up held by the Supreme Court what does implementation look like?
