I am a Michigan Voter and hold an elected office in a small U.P. Village. I do plan on voting for Abdul but I was wondering about why Stevens kept bringing up him not releasing his tax returns? It seemed he said something about same extensions she filed for but then she cut him off. Also what is up with her claiming his father in law is funding his campaign with a Super PAC? I am sure family members have donated to his campaign but they would have to follow campaign finance rules.
I heard on the Bulwark, Sam accused Abdul of being sexist because Abdul criticized Stevens for being unclear in her communication. So now a legit criticism cannot be made by a man towards a woman without being called sexist. That is not an honest or productive way to proceed. We cannot conflate the sexism of trump, vance and even Blanche with a legit observation.
I don’t live in Michigan, but I will be donating to El-Sayed. Enough gillibrands, Schumer’s, etc. I cannot believe that she picked up trumps style. Say lies loudly and repeat them.
Fantastic post! I live in MI; my wife and I received our ballots a few days ago...and tomorrow we will put our ballots in the drop box, voting, enthusiastically, for Abdul.
Thanks so much for your summary of yesterday's debate. I did not watch it, afraid I my blood pressure would rise to dangerously high levels. There are very few virtuous politicians in the US, but Abdul is one of the best, in a league with Zoran and Bernie. A real mensch, he practices tikkun olam (to repair the world) every day. He cares about all humanity, for those struggling with poverty or ill-health or those who face the IDF genocide, ethnic cleansing, and apartheid every day.
Stephens appears to know nothing of virtue. Rashid's piece gives examples, but I always think of one that encapsulates his points: all Democrats claim to support reproductive rights, but many--like Stevens--do not, for those who support genocidal regimes, where hospitals become rubble, medicines disappear, and uncounted women die in childbirth support regimes that deny all those rights. You cannot support rights in the US (which by her refusal to demand abolishing ICE she refuses even here) and deny them abroad.
I am Jewish, 79-years old and long an opponent of Israel's persecution of Arab (Muslim and Christian) inhabitants of historic Palestine. Stevens appears ignorant of Jewish Americans, in and outside of Congress. A substantial majority of American Jews admit that Israel has committed crimes against humanity, and at least a third call in genocide, including most Jews under 40. And look at the Senate. Seven of the ten Jewish senators voted for Bernie's resolution to deny Israel offensive weapons (I would prohibit the sale of any weapons for Israel and other authoritarian nations). I was very pleased when Jewish Voice for Peace, the largest anti-war, anti-genocide Jewish organization endorsed Abdul. (And for those outside of MI, Abdul's response to the attack on the Detroit area synagogue was magnificently supported Jewish Michiganders, while understanding why the perpetrator committed the crime.
A Stand Out! Abdul El-Sayed has taught us a lesson for all to acknowledge what it takes to be in the Senate with policies that others should adopt to be in perfect harmony with values that the Democratic base can be proud of, in fact a perfect candidate, I'm really impressed! Thank you Qasim Rashid, Esq.
This is a great article. Thank you. I’m in SC so that’s a loser. I do hope El-Sayed wins. Stevens does sound like a Trump puppet. Her many donors definitely reinforce that. Any insight into SC politics?
Qasim, Do you have any input on the candidates for Michigan congressional district two? There isn’t enough information out there for me to make an informed decision. Thanks!
Thank you for your insight. I completely agree- we need to support candidates with a vision that stands up to corporate interests and stands for the common good. I’m tired of establishment Democrats.
Abdul sounds like the man for the job! Haley sounds like a republican in disguise - no thanks!
But the most exciting item I found when I read your article: WE SHARE A BIRTHDAY! WOW, that is exciting! I would like to say i am going to be 44 but...early happy birthday greetings!
Steven's is basically a republican posing as a democrat just like Fetterman. El-Sayed is getting my vote. Her version of the democratic party needs to go......fast!
Great summary. I’m a Michigander and Abdul supporter, so I checked out the Michigan subreddit for people’s responses to the debate. Overwhelmingly, they found Abdul El-Sayed to be the stronger and more honest candidate. Let’s hope that translates to a strong primary win. I have filled out my mail in ballot, and I plan to drop it off in person tomorrow at my polling station as I no longer trust the USPS. 🫤

I was also wondering about the taxes. I’m only halfway through the playback online, but I haven’t heard him address it.

Hear, Hear, Qasim! Well said. Dr. El-Sayed lives by his words, while Stevens hides from hers.

So no to the AIPAC supported bigot.
Great article Qasim. ☮️

I hope this helps people do the right thing and vote for Abdul.
