Souls to the Polls in the 21st Century.

Well, this is exactly what our local Dems group does. We have succeeded in passing and electing every warrant article and candidate that we've chosen. Our town has a Candidate's Night, and our group hosts a Zoom mtg to openly discuss the Articles before Voting Day.

Sway is a free app. Zero cost.

Check it out and build your voter list. We need more organizers than ever before. Hope you dive in.

Thank you, I will definitely download SWAY

I joined your voting group. Do you recommend that we also create our own voting group?

Qasim Rashid, Esq.'s avatar

Thank you for joining my voting group! And yes, highly recommend you create your own voting group--especially on the local level. Let's get the right folks into our city councils, school boards, library boards, park commissioners, and state houses. These are critical seats that are too often ignored.

I always taught my son that local elections are the most important ones, because they affect us most directly (eg., school board), and they are where our federal representation begins.

Never heard of Sway, but I have been spreading the word about US politics on other socials though

Qasim Rashid, Esq.'s avatar

Sway is unique in that it lets you actually build your own voting group. Do check it out!

I'll check that out later

Quick question: I live in Canada. Does this app work only in the U.S.? If so, what could we do to get a version of the app that will work in Canada?

Thanks!

Qasim Rashid, Esq.'s avatar

You can register and sign up, and then indicate that you are in Canada. They are working on a build out there and you can be one of the early adopters!

I don't have a smartphone.

A friend of mine, my age and a Vietnam vet told me to my surprise that he has never voted, not even for a presidential candidate. He freely admits that the Vietnam War was a mistake even to expressing admiration for Ho Chi Minh.

I don't want to lean heavily on him to vote this Tuesday, but I must try something, so I told him that I had a dream. In it, he decided to vote for Kat Abughazaleh (my choice for Congress) and when the results came in it was revealed that she had won by a single vote!

He got a chuckle out of it. I tried, even if someone could say to me "in your dreams!"

All should keep in mind that Trump won the presidency with only a tad over 1/4th of the vote of the electorate. About 50% of those who could vote did not. Jill Stein, a thoroughly respectable person and my choice last time, got about 1% of the vote. I was ready to scream from hearing so many people talk about her not being electable, that we the people just had to vote for Harris to stop Trump.

We really should be ashamed of ourselves for our political apathy. The claim can be made that voting gives us very little political power, but it is reprehensible to throw away what power we have in particular when so many people in the world have no ability to vote at all.

If you go to Sway.co you can also sign up with your desktop. You don't actually need a smart phone. That's just an easier way because apps are so popular. But don't feel left out. Go to sway.co and get involved.

Also, thank you for supporting Kat! That's an amazing dream!

Thanks for signing up! I hope you enjoy it as much as I am!

I have a strong presentiment that my mail-in ballot will be outlawed. Either that or I won't be around for the future elections. But SWAY sounds like a great and powerful use of our digital technologies. Go for it!

I’m registered in Oregon to vote. But the app doesn’t show it?

Julie's avatar

Thank you Qasim ✌🏻

Qasim Rashid, Esq.'s avatar

Thanks for flagging! I'm being advised to share that you should submit for manual review and the Sway team should be able to turn it around within 24 hours to resolve it. Thanks for diving in!

I joined! TY.

I have a question for you. As a citizen from Oregon, I don’t feel donating to candidates or endorsing candidates of other states during the primary season is appropriate. The citizens of those states should make the decision of representation. After primaries, I may donate to candidates of other states based on platform and purpose. Is the Sway app set up to influence voters of only my local and state ballots, or national as well?

Qasim Rashid, Esq.'s avatar

Great question. Sway allows you to work at the level you feel most aligned with. Local, state, or federal. You can absolutely build a voter group only focused on local and state, or only local. It's completely your call.

Wow, this is interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Qasim Rashid, Esq.'s avatar

I think you'll really enjoy it. It becomes even more exciting when you set up your own Sway and your local community starts to follow your recs.
