Thank you Qasim, for all your sage advice -- I am keeping it at hand. I am an American, born here, but do not want my country to stand for trump's non-values; I want to help my immigrant friends; I live in Texas, and have lots of both documented and undocumented immigrant friends. They are contributing members of our community, are taxed, but get no reward from that. I am furious, but believe in the rule of law, and will continue to abide by that, to get justice .... though trump and his brood, feel no constraints on disobeying the law.
I have a temporary solution, why doesn’t law enforcement- the people who are still on the public’s side- actually do their fucking job and detain / arrest those ICE agents who have broken city, county and/ or state laws. This would be a start. No one has given us a decent explanation for state and local law enforcement not executing their duties for the public good and standing down or just ignoring ICE whenever they appear. What happened in Minneapolis is just a beginning of more violent crimes against the public if ICE is allowed to continue whatever they want without any consequences or accountability. WTF do you expect to happen if normalization of their crimes continues and any resistance is not forthcoming.
I'll restate the comment I made in Wajajhat Ali's article today on a similar subject:
Everything ICE does is according to a plan. They're "flooding the zone" with intentionally provocative violent acts. They're probing for the flashpoint when someon finally yields to the urge to respond in kind. That will give them the excuse to escalate dramatically and invoke martial law.
I must congratulate everyone, citizens and local government alike, for their forbearance. It's necessary though! Trimp and Miller's scheme mirrors an old Soviet technique where you push and provoke until you meet resistance and then you withdraw and find a different place to push on. In the long run, individual action against this won't be helpful. That would be fighting them on their terms. It's going to take organized resistance to successfully oppose their fascism, so angry as this latest instance of brownshirt thuggery makes us, remember these words -
Thank you, Qasim, for sharing this. I wanted to mention that the Wells PD in Maine no longer collaborates with ICE. It was as a result of the local indivisible chapter continuous protests in front of the PD. It was a great win for activism!
Qasid, I'm not arguing with you, but I don't understand how undocumented immigrants would pay taxes ~ sales taxes, yes, and maybe payroll deductions? I just thought someone would need a SS # to file income taxes?
There is a mechanism to obtain a substitute for the SS#:
"The Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is a tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to ensure that people—including undocumented immigrants—pay taxes even if they do not have a Social Security number (SSN)."
This information needs to be circulated more widely in order to counter widespread misinformation. Thanks for posting. 🙏🙏. I will be doing my best to help spread awareness.
I had to apply for and receive a TIN as in individual in order to avoid having to give my SSN. Though I thought it was illegal for a SSN to be used as an ID for anything other than dealing with the SS administration, it seems that is not true.
One caveat about exercising your right to remain silent (according to several lawyers on YouTube - I am not a lawyer) is that you must actually say that you are exercising your right to remain silent before law enforcement considers that you have invoked your right to remain silent. Same for invoking your right to have your lawyer present and your right to withhold consent for a search. You have to say it. Check with a lawyer about the best wording and state and local laws. Then, the lawyers said in their videos to follow through and don't say anything at all except repeating your right to remain silent, and asking if you are detained or if you are free to go.
DOGE has made claims of up to $200 billion (highly suspect) from Musk's antics last year that included a stop to climate.gov keeping track of global temperature change...everyone at climate.gov was fired and the data updates ended with that last June. The site is now archived. Was that money supposedly saved put to good use to fund ICE?
Is there anything a state or town/city can do to make ICE leave? I feel like there isn't given that they are the federal government, but perhaps my imagination is failing me.
ICE is now formally blaming the observer for the shooting. They have accused her of aiming her car at ICE. No witness has collaborated ICE’s story. The observer is deceased.
Less than an hour ago there was an ICE related shooting. Yesterday 2,000 Ice agents were sent to Minneapolis, MN for a large scale event. A woman was asked to leave, she appeared to obey, shortly thereafter after she was shot. Keep watching. MPLS mayor has demanded removal of ICE.
This is what solidarity looks like when it’s actually useful. Not slogans, not vibes. Receipts, rights, and real-world steps people can take before panic sets in.
Also worth saying out loud: fear is the weapon here. Community, preparation, and memory are the antidote. Thank you for putting something concrete in people’s hands instead of just more doom to scroll past.

Thank you for posting this timely and pragmatic piece and for all of your hard work.

That is an excellent suggestion.

Main thing is ensure they don't sign a 287g agreement with ICE.
He also paints the transgender community as criminals and threats to the country. They understand perfectly what you're saying.
Will read article. Following the live feeds shooting killing of woman in Minn. Status Coup has been there. Bovino came. DHS fixing narrative.
💯 Excellent.

Thanks for this. I’ve seen most of it before, but not ll in on place. Liked and Restacked!
I do not know how to report this but:
