Well said QR. Keep putting sun shine on all the ongoing attempts to silence the people. The present corrupt regime will try to keep their criminal activities in darkness & secrecy. And unfortunately, they have many willing helpers outside government. Hopefully soon, government insiders who respect our Constitution will expose all abuses of the Law. Courage is contagious! Thank you for doing your part.

Thank you. Actually it was upon walking out of the courthouse that he said his courageous words. Everything else you reported was spot-on.

A good day to see that Mohsen Mahdawi is released to have his day in court. What is happening is disgusting. Still it is a coup full of deceit. Narcissism is characterized by a lack of empathy. Any empathy. Trump and Musk are afflicted. They live in a game of conning others. https://hotbuttons.substack.com/p/hornswaggling-over-100-days?r=3m1bs

You are absolutely correct about corporate media completely failing on this issue. The main issue was why should we have any jail cell outside of the United States. There’s absolutely no reason for that and it is clear from Trump‘s current actions that there is no way to give people justice or to watch out for their safety when they are in foreign jails, including Guantánamo.

All of those need to be shut down and the rules need to be changed such that Americans or any person in America can only be a adjudicated in America and can only be jailed in America where we can get some semblance of justice.

I frankly would say that American citizens should only be jailed And adjudicated in their state so they don’t get moved around all these southern states.

There's a long standing injustice of moving incarcerated people across states to separate them from their families. Then they'll count incarcerated people as citizens for voter districting purposes, but then deny them the right to vote. It's a modern day 3/5 clause. Frankly I'm glad you commented this because I'm realizing very few people know about this modern day racist policy that needs to end. Stay tuned.

I read that it was that Mohsen Mahdawi was out on bail. Meaning that he will eventually be back in court. This is unfortunatly not over regardless. I don't understand why the judge didn't simply dismiss the case.

As I understand it, The judge can’t dismiss the immigration process. He still has to get through citizenship process in immigration (INS) court. Trump Admin derailed him and skated him for deportation, on the day of his final citizenship interview. The VT judge has no jurisdiction there.

The judge ruled that he's not a flight risk and that he's not of any danger to the USA, based on what the government had provided so far. That's a huge win because it sets the precedent that the reasoning the Govt is using to hold people is faulty. While I agree it would have been even better if the Judge simply dismissed the case altogether, at the minimum this route still gives Mohsen his freedom and still keeps the burden on the Government, not on him.

Because due process means that the government has an opportunity to bring forward whatever their claims are against him. The first proceeding was only to determine if he will continue to be held in custody until that hearing. It must go step by step. Also he will have an opportunity to hear see and respond to any government “evidence”.

Speak out, ESPECIALLY if your voice shakes. These escalating assaults on rights and obligations guaranteed by the Constitution are unlawful and harmful. None of us needs to face this oppressive misery alone.

We the People at Work

The People, the protectors of Democracy,  are out and about. What "people," out where, about what--and why?  First, millions said "Hand Off"to Trump/Musk et al, then on the 19th via 50501" (50 protests, 5o states, 1 Movement + Indivivable) millions more protested the mess in WDC.  Also on the 19th we celebrated the "the shot heard around the world at Lexington and Concord, starting the Revolution and our country.  On the 22nd protectors of the environment cleaned up a different kind of mess  on Earth Day.

As important as the participants in environmental mess cleanup and American history are, this post is dedicated to  the named and unnamed protestors fighting the Trump/Musk Washington, DC, tyrannical mess.  Or as Susan Grymes calls it:  "Protectors" of democracy, and so shall I in this post.

Who are the Protectors of democracy on April 5, 19th, May 1st--or all the everydays in between and into the future??  We will never know the names of each individual marcher, sign holder (or just standing together in solidarity).  But we do know by name some people, advocacy groups, judges and law firms, and other entities who have not been cowed, and have fought back publicly--sometimes under threat of death..  Some, such as Sen. Cory Booker, with his 25 hour righteous speech on ethics,  morality, and American democracy, have become an inspiration. Here then, in no particular order of noteworthy (except the first three), are the names of many  of the army of protectors of democracy--and remember Courage is Contagious:(Of course, the list is imperfect,  Additions are welcomed.  Also re-posting is permitted and encouraged.                                                    PROTECTORS OF DEMOCRACY (By pen, voice, sign, or act)

Of those you mentioned, these Senators just voted to confirm another of Trump’s crony nominees, Purdue for Ambassador of China: Booker, Klobuchar, Slotkin, plus Kaine, Hasan, Shaheen and others. 16 Dems keep voting for Trump cronies. This is not resistance. I don’t know what it is.
