Thank you! In my 58 years as an American- i have been taught -not explicitly-but through shared assumptions that poverty was a thing that happened to people because of their choices-my experiences however never fed that myth. You nailed it…

Poverty is not a moral failing of the poor. It is too often the moral failure of the powerful.

Ramadan, Eid Mubarak is what Christians are supposed to celebrate at Christmas and Easter. I am more atheist now than Christian but I do remember quite a few of my early biblical lessons and I know that what passes for Christianity today is far too often glitter, glitz and lies. Bent and twisted biblical injunctions, people steeped in hypocrisy, spouting hate, false judgement, metaphorical stoning and actual physical attacks on people of good will.

By your works ye shall be known.

Keep up the good work Qasim, keep your eyes on the prize and keep telling Christians and Muslims alike, the values we must live by.

Thank you, Qasim, for telling me something about Islam -- all I've known is that Muslims practice charity to others, but good to hear the backdrop of why , when, whom --- which is everybody, regardless of religion or tribe.

Eid Mubarak, to all our Islamic Brothers and Sisters. The message Qasim articulated is a good message to all: Help where you can, speak kind words in the face of adversity, and truth in the face of a tyrant ruler. A tyrant ruler is not necessarily one who lies to his people, or who formants intolerance and adversity amongst the world, as much as one who encourages that intolerance and adversity amongst the people of his home country first. When we speak that truth, we must seek to do it in such a way that we show respect for our countrymen who do not agree with us, while making it clear that we do not agree with the methods and ideas that would separate us or cause us to conflict with one another.

Eid Mubarak, Qasim! It’s a gift to see you smile. I’m sure you smile often, it’s just that I can’t recall seeing a picture like this one. Thank you for helping to heal the senseless divisions that keep us in the dark.

"The best form of jihad is to speak a word of truth in the face of a tyrant ruler.”

I'm so glad you included that, for two reasons. The first is because so many Americans are fixated on the idea that jihad means war and killing the infidel, meaning Christians, when it isn't that at all. My understanding is that it's the struggle within the heart to do good when it's difficult. The second is because almost nobody in our government today is willing to speak the word of truth to the tyrant running our country today. Certainly no one in his administration, no one in his party, and almost no one in our elected representatives. Rep. Dan Goldman stood on the floor of the House this week and read an unredacted file from the Epstein files. But I know of no one who will say, in his presence, "President Trump, you are wrong. This is the truth: ........."
