Thank you Qasim, for stating what most people would not, for great fear of being condemned, in this "christian" country, since you come from the Islam faith. Thank you. This was a great, well-thought-out piece.

After saying that trump is obviously anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, you concentrated on christianity. But trump has NO religion whatsoever, because he is SELFISH, a narcissist. He can never give over control to a god, because HE is the god in his eyes. The only things he values are THINGS OF THIS WORLD -- money, power, the physical things he can buy or steal (preferably). He has no feeling, no compassion for ANYONE, including family >>> all is for the purpose of shining light on himself. He does not know what LOVE is or means -- it is giving, not taking. (if we were generous, we would feel sorry for him, that his wretched father & upbringing, did not teach him about love, .... but he has hurt too many people for us to waste our pity on him).

One does not have to be an adherent to a particular religion, to be moral, ethical, generous. There is a higher power in the wisdom of the universe, which is things happen for cause or randomly, and science is a large part of this.

Withholding medicine we have in abundance from those who desperately NEED them, USAID-funded HIV/AIDS medicines, is unconscionable. As a retired R.N., I am beyond appalled by this. I took care of these people in the 1980s, before we had medicines, just continuous antibiotics round-the-clock, and giving them and their partners, respect and affection, trying to comfort them.

That trump can issue presidential decrees and pardons, is a priority a new government and president must change. This is why the Founders did not want a king or a unitary presidency, but The People voting in the their Reps, entrusting the House to have the power tp declare war.

Criticism of the Pope is almost laughable. As the Head of one of the huge christian religions, it is HIS job to know and talk theology, not trump or vance. Their job is politics, and in a "normal"administration, to GOVERN safely for The People. (The SC is another matter that needs URGENT change, restrictions, starting with term limits, and probably, restrictions on the number of appointees one president can make during his term). Central & South Americans are almost all Roman Catholics -- to deny them asylum is internationally illegal and shows his absolute racism for dark-skinned peoples.

No, christian nationalism is not christianity. It is based on worldly power, certainly not the love, kindness, forgiveness, generosity of Jesus. Be it the charity of Islam, or Gandhi's teachings, or Buddhism, or Jesus' words and behavior (righteous anger at injustice, is needed), or other teachings that show empathy and compassion -- this is morality. trump is amoral and immoral. Evangelicals are selfish, in insisting YOU believe their way or the highway.

As you make the point: "the goal is to stop fascism." "That is exactly what Jesus would do."

Thank you for allowing me to talk on and on.

Well reasoned analysis, comprehensive and informative. At some point a piece deconstructing “conservative Catholicism” would be welcome.

The Fapweasel (Trump) pretty much broke all Ten Commandments, especially if you consider murder knowingly encouraging people to be killed, like hiring a hit man is considered murder in the eyes of the law.

At least two of his three marriages were shot gun weddings. The bride was pregnant, for those of you unfamiliar with the term.

Well stated. I grew up where white so-called christian (they aren’t christian) nationalists prevail. They rationalise the most evil viewpoints, for example, killing of entire Vietnam villages during the Vietnam war, and praising the US soldiers who did it.

If Trump is a Christian, I'm Repunzel. And as an agnostic, I'm sure I know more about what's in the Bible than these 'Christian' white nationalists.

Thank you Qasim, for another thought-provoking piece!

I firmly believe Trump’s responsible for massive decline in church attendance and exodus from religious institutions and affiliations. His second election did me in.

If it's unkind, not supportive of all, not loving in intent and action, it isn't Cristian. "Love thy neighbor as thyself".

As a writer, I wish to acknowledge how articulate, thorough, well-researched and well-organized this piece is, but more important: This is one of the most relevant consequential pieces for this time, a must-read for all who believe, and don't believe, that Trump was sent by God to do his/her work.

Certainly, as usual, you make a persuasive case. But what makes evangelical silence even more ghastly is its ignoring its own history. Mid-19th century White Northern evangelicals sought the end of slavery; and they supported women's rights. A prophetic minority of Evangelical Protestants have returned to their historical origins. I think of the Sojourners, a radical (in the best sense) organization. (I may be one of the few Jews who receive their emails) Look at their most recent email and you will find this gem "During this Easter season, we remember that when the forces of empire tried to kill the truth, the truth came back—louder. And as followers of Jesus, a displaced Palestinian Jew living under Roman occupation, we know the truth always starts by lifting up the voices that others try to silence." Their founder, Jim Wallace, has long supported human decency; he is currently a professor at Georgetown U, where he teaches and advocates for social justice.

When you put it like this, yes, he absolutely seems about as anti-Christian as they come. He's just such an unremittingly-awful mess of negative traits that none of them really stand out.

He may well bring down the US as a result, and sadly, deservedly so.

His brand of Christian faith is trash and it makes Jesus Christ look bad

A powerful post Qasim. So much harm has been done over the years in the name of religion. Trump is a profoundly awful human who will use whatever is handy, including religion, to get what he wants. He certainly doesn't hold any religious ideology himself. He is now sick and lashing out in every direction. He should be removed from power by the 25 amendment but that isn't going to happen. We need to use impeachment and our votes to get him out of office for the country's sake as well as his own.

Qasim, you are very, very good at writing, explaining, sharing and I think you for your efforts in posts as well as on video.

I have a question. Two friends of mine and I cannot find a definitive answer.

Is someone seeking asylum obligated to apply with the first country they get to? In other words, do asylum seekers have the option of continuing to their choice of destination? Specifically, can someone from Nicaragua or Honduras walk through Mexico to get to the USA to apply for asylum or must they apply in Mexico? Is there international law governing this?

Thank you.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit, as described by Paul in his epistle to the Galatians, are love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

I see none of these in trump or in his actions.

Take any and all religions. He is anti anything that does not benefit himself. But cosplays when he think it benefits him. "Praise be to Allah,", "'Shalom Hamas' means Hello and Goodbye — You can choose," Is there any religion he hasn't insulted? If not directly, then through his behaviour.
