We must understand the deeply racist past behind this phrase, especially as the Trump regime wastes billions on war, corruption, and partying while Americans suffer
Brilliant writing. I was aware of these receipts you listed, but to have them together and to clearly point out the obvious is to strengthen the call of action you have at the end. You are exactly right that hate is not sustainable. I pray that you are right about this being a last gasp for white supremacy.
Small government means a government that exists for the benefit of a small number of people. Who happen to be rich, white, "Christian" males. It's a club, and we ain't in it.
Qasim, you got it!! When it's for THEM, it's all the $$$ they can spend!! I had seen hegseth's totals on one of MS NOW's programs -- I'm sure those NOT receiving food stamps any longer, would have LOVED to eat a King crab's leg! -- they've never had one, and never will.
There are young people running for office, from Leaders We Deserve, and independents, that I expect to win -- it's slow, but times are achangin'. IN THE MEANTIME, ..... people are dying in this EGO-centric war, run by these know-nothing criminals. trump is to blame for all of this -- he put these idiots around him. Before the epstein files, .... I didn't realize that, not just here, but the whole world is run by enormously rich & powerful & unethical people. It's a long battle we have ahead, and I will be dead before I see all the good results, but I DO believe good will win.
It’s interesting how the phrase “small government” has always had a very flexible definition. When the government is building highways, subsidizing industries, or funding programs that benefit certain groups, suddenly nobody calls it big government. But when the same government tries to expand opportunity more broadly, then the alarm bells start ringing.
History shows that the real debate has rarely been about the size of government. It has usually been about who the government is working for. And that question has been sitting quietly underneath American politics for a very long time.
Excellent analysis, I approve this message. Sadly, the Democratic Party is weak and not willing to meet the moment with the truth. If they manage to regain the house (which they never should have lost), they just want to reestablish the status quo, which is why were are in this place. The status quo is just another cog in the machine of white supremacy. America and the west overarching political system is that of white supremacy. It’s not about individual people, it is about dismantling that evil system of suppression to anyone who doesn’t fit into the mold.
Qasim, so important is your writing. the class war is divisive, the super rich, the doing well, the just getting by, and the impoverished.
during the election speeches, the oval resident spoke of ‘sweeping the streets’ to eliminate the unhoused. warehousing people is in process of being created. courts have ruled unhoused can be arrested. …
"First, we must recognize that the conservative vision of “small government” isn’t about fiscal conservatism—it’s about racial control and class war."
A well laid out piece. But there are a couple of other, related dimensions:
1) The national security/surveillance state, to monitor, suppress, and prosecute dissent, and give play to the "they hate us for our freedoms" horseshit best expressed by Dumbya. The federal workforce exploded under him with tens of thousands of TSA, DHS, and related workers, not to mention those we don't know about in all the domestic snooping agencies.
2) Can't ignore the spending... uh-h-h, staggering waste of the "defense" budget, now obscenely past the $1+ trillion per year mark, which stokes the Empire abroad, impoverishes it domestically, and lets Israel run wild, putting the entire world, and all its races, at risk.
"What we are seeing are the gasping breaths of a dying white supremacist ideology."
True, and with that the Empire itself.
"Finally, we must be consistent and not lose hope."
I'm afraid that ship has already sailed. Bon (or more apt, "Bomb") Voyage.
Sadly, yet again, only those with resources (land and water), or ways to obtain them (weapons and violence), will survive, while the remainder of us on the planet perish.
What they really want is a lot less oversight. They want fewer rules so they can cheat people without legal repercussions. With some people, if there is no law against it, they will do it. That is unacceptable!
And I want to add to my previous comment, Qasim, that when I bought my home many years ago I was shown homes in those privileged neighborhoods. I chose to own in my current neighborhood because I HAD lived in a privileged neighborhood and I got sick sick sick of being looked at askance when I failed to laugh at a neighbor's racist joke. I'm so comfortable where I am.
Include their desire to always slash regulations, especially environmental and consumer protections, as part of their "small government" mantra. Chemical, light, and sound pollution disproportionately harm communities of color. The housing crisis of 2008 was begun by offering Black home owners refinancing packages that were fraudulent. It was Wells Fargo and other institutions that caused the harm, yet the narrative was "selfish lazy crooked Black people taking out mortgages they couldn't afford." A little more consumer regulation would have gone a long way to preventing it, but then how would the billionaires have been able to snatch up so many properties for pennies on the dollar?
And were not legal! They're doing it again. Penny Mac is relentless trying to get me to mortgage a "home improvement and bill consolidating loan to take advantage of the financil corncopia open just for people like me." (70 yo with a new 30 year mortgage .. HOW STUPID DO THEY ASSUME OR HOPE I AM?!?)
Inflated numbersof property averages just so taxes can go through the roof because "Cleveland is having such a hard time making ends meet because of the neighborhoods that were decimated"... here's the part they leave out: by forclosures that never should have been put into ink stealing every cent of a trusting family's hope....
Home insurance touting $10,000 deductables to ease availability of "affordable disaster" protection.
TEN THOUSAND OUT OF POCKET BEFORE THE METER STARTS.
I wish you pirates all the booty you deserve. For you, its never enough...sadly, you will never know peace.
A lot of these banks have a (not so) hidden agenda. That is why it is good to go to a neutral third party for advice, or someone who has your interests at heart, if you can.
What you so clearly state here, Qasim, reminds me of a program I heard recently on our local public radio station. An interview of a group of hs students who had received a state award. ALL from the white suburbs; none from the city (in which I live). One student went on about the constant parade of Nobel prize winners attending parties at her parents' home. While I applaud her being a good student, to listen to her talk, my heart broke for the less ADVANTAGED Black and brown students at the city hs just blocks from me. This is just not fair but it won't ever change.

Wow thank you for the History lesson. Qasim you’re great at making people aware of history. 👏🏻✌🏻
This is an excellent piece. I shared it with others & I am putting it in my "tuck this away for when you need it" email folder.
:)
an eye opening article…
Good, thoughtful, informative debunking of the myth. Thank you.

I think it's coming to that... or, "Iceberg ahead!"

More like they were talked into getting mortgages they couldn’t afford.

More like empty promises were made to them
