I appreciate the concrete suggestions. I am a proud Union member and vote in all elections. I don’t agree that Americans welcomed all European immigrants with open arms; the Irish for example. However, as you show the white America don’t endure the systemic racism that the brown and black people have and continue to do. The systemic oppression in our society needs to be taught in our schools so citizens understand our past and its effect on peoples choices and future. But that would be woke, or Dei instead of what it is, TRUTH.
Adding usda farm loans that so badly hurt black farmers that Biden tried to establish programs to address the injustices - only to be shot down by the courts as based on race.
The hypocrisy is obvious to all. Still in America, blacks are not allowed to live in certain neighbourhoods. They don't have signs saying "Whites only" but real estate agents in some cases refuse to offer those properties to people of colour. If they did they'd probably have their license revoked. The reason given would still not cite them not upholding the colour bar it would simply find another infringement to curtail their views. Blacks have to watch out when they move from one neighbourhood to another because even though they are free, in the minds of some they are still compelled to notice the whites only bar. The militarisation in cities is apparently only happening in democratic cities, does anybody notice or care anymore? People have to start talking about racial injustice like you are doing on your substack Qasim because that's the conversation people need to have. It's been too long implied and not actually discussed. Black policemen are yelled at for being black not policemen. The same goes for your politicians. Being black or brown or a woman in politics is what trump is trying to get rid of. This is never going to be overcome unless everybody accepts these differences. As history shows us that once you've eliminated the ones everybody likes to hate then you move onto these others, like academics (too elite) get rid of them. Female soldiers (too weak) get rid of them. Queer soldiers (too everything) get rid of them. There will always be another group to disengage with until all that's left is rich white men and blonde blue-eyed women who must be considered property. Maybe that's what'll happen on Mars when Elon finally gets a rocket not to blow up and can take on rich fare paying passengers. There must be real JUSTICE in America before they can call themselves a real democracy.
I was listening to an NPR program Saturday LEFT RIGHT AND CENTER, discussions meeting in the middle. There is a Left journalist, a Right journalist, and a moderator. When the Left brought up that the cities Trump was sending troops to all have Black mayor's, moderator said, "let's not get into that". Later, when Left began to point out that some Red cities have much higher crime rates than DC, moderator said, "we need to move on to the next topic". Here I thought we were meeting in the middle. This is how fascism works--you keep silencing opinions that don't toe the Leader's line. And here we are DOING IT ON A PURPORTEDLY FREE-SPEAKING PROGRAM.
I listen to the program to know what is going on but I can't tolerate it much or any longer. I'll listen to the Right, but I think the Left deserves at least a chance to speak. So I guess I actually AM learning what is going on.
Kinda disagree. Big government is hard to control as we read daily on MSM and Independents. A small government would be easier to control. Even the military could be drastically cut. Foot soldiering is out and drones and Spyware and missiles and aircraft with a few subs is all that is all you need. Oh plus a few thousands of nukes. Brilliant analysis, Qasim. I would concur with the advice that you gave regarding how to counter the Trump regime’s fascist onslaught.
But in order for this fascist onslaught to fail, it will be necessary for tens of millions of Trump’s own voters to experience extreme misery and suffering caused by him so that many of them turn hard on him.
The fact that the American economy is on the brink of collapsing because of Trump’s ineptitude, madness and moral depravity will likely lead to this occurring when it does collapse. And it may also lead to more of the majority Americans who are already opposed to him to doing far more to stop his fascist onslaught.
But desperate men are dangerous men. So, when Trump inevitably does crash and burn in the not so distant future he may attempt to take all of us down with him.
There may also be a massive terrorist attack in the U.S. at some point over the next two years, even worse than the one that occurred on September 11, 2001, that is caused by international outrage over the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza the U.S. is facilitating, international outrage of the defunding of USAID, and the Trump regime’s gutting of our nation’s intelligence agencies.

Trump and the rest of the 1% are ignoring this (global warming a hoax - disable the EPA) in the pursuit of unlimited wealth. The rest of us, the 99%, are to the extent that our limited wealth allows, pursuing consumption eagerly. Big vehicles burning gasoline are all the rage. Get a bigger house, take vacations all over the world (airplanes burning fossil fuel) and live as large as you can, even if you need to borrow to the hilt to do it.
GW Bush famously said "the American way of life is not negotiable", as foolish a remark as it could be. Mother Nature doesn't negotiate as the world warms. The annual increase in atmospheric CO2 is not only increasing without a pause, the rate of increase is growing. Take a look at NOAA's Mauna Loa atmospheric observatory report on CO2 to see for yourself.
Wildfires are burning record amounts of timber, glaciers continue to melt, oceans are rising and becoming more acid from absorption of CO2 and Americans continue to be oblivious doing little to nothing to reduce their impact on the natural world.
In short, we can't go on with capitalism, but nobody is offering an alternative, and the vast majority are indulging as much as they can. We are blindly and deliberately heading for disaster, Trump with his extravagant gilded lifestyle leading the way proudly.

As a step mother to a biracial family, I have long been incensed and at times frightened for my children’s very existence in America. The deviant hatred of people with darker skin has always fascinated me in numerous ways, one of them being tanning booths and laying in the sun to darken that white skin. I am a biracial Indigenous Caucasian woman whose skin is mostly white and as a young woman, my girlfriends would add iodine to baby oil to tan faster to darken their skin. Tattoos and numerous ear piercings and body piercings did not come out of the white culture as did many fashion designs by high fashion designers. How can we promote racism when we practice many of black, brown, red, yellow practices handed down over centuries? Why? Why do we hate brown people and then get tattooed all over one arm? Why do we pierce our ears eight times, our nose twice and our eyebrows and lip when pierces come out of a brown culture? Are we so ignorant? Or are we really culturally closer to becoming culturally close? I do not have those answers but I will tell you this: the child close to me with 8 piercings and a whole tattooed arm is as loved by me as the child who is the bookworm working on a Doctorate with no piercings and no tattoos. They belong. And they are loved.
