Ahmed al Ahmed is a brave man, to try to stop the violence. And the Australian gov't is right to tackle gun violence NOW, instead of waiting like our own country -- I'm ashamed AGAIN -- you do not wait for the crisis to be over, because it will NEVER be over, until we reduce military-style weapons in the hands of civilians. Netanyahu I hope is not backed by the majority of Israelis -- I have supported Israel all my life, but they are woefully off-course in their far-right gov't, and lack of any empathy for the Palestinian people. Confusing Hamas with the Pal people, and using Israeli army against them, and not just allowing, but encouraging "the settlers" to steal land from them, is wrong and inhumane. Never again, means you treat others in the same way you want Jews to be treated.

I'm Jewish and I agree with you. I am finding some of the responses to Bondi a bit worrying. I understand where it comes from. But it does not seem to care about the effect on people who are not Jewish, and the measures being called for are sweeping like "end Freedom of speech" has an appalling effect on everybody. I'm also South African . In our constitution hate speech is not acceptable. But that constitution has also set up a Human Rights commission which among other things has to do deal with hate speech. It does so effectively and fairly. Defining Hate Speech is where the problems lie. I was worried about hate speech contained in many responses and difficult to define.

I have something to add to the heroes of the day. He was absolutely wonderful. He was not however the only person trying to stop the gunmen. Two people rushed from that car park I think early on, and tried to stop them. A man and his wife. They were both shot and killed. There is another lesson in this. Being exceptionally good, kind and brave does not depend on religion or ethnicity.

I keep saying it: unity is our only weapon against a divided moral compass. Why does no one get it? ‘I am human. You are human. Now we relate.’

Many of us are in unity. But try to get that across to the people who don’t want to be part of it.

May the victims and their loved ones be protected from all the sensational stories, and political distortions, and most importantly, guns! Sending Ahmed Al Ahmed healing and profound gratitude. Thanks to you, Qasim, for reminding us of what's true.

As my Jewish friends, of a certain age, would say; Ahmed al Ahmed is a Mensch.

Ahmed Al Ahmed, thank you.

Qasim, thank you for the moderated video. It is a message seldom spoken. Your words are far better than mine. I will be sharing with many. People believe that the Talmud and the Koran speak of hate, and there is nothing further from the truth. Humanity twists the words for their gain, not the gain of the Creator! I choose to share and speak for the Creator.

What jumps out here is how predictable the script has become. Violence happens, and within minutes people are already auditioning to turn grief into a recruiting tool. Blame the wrong group, expand the wrong powers, avoid the one conversation that actually changes outcomes. It’s the same shell game every time, just with different bodies on the ground.

And then there’s Ahmed al Ahmed, running toward gunfire while professional outrage merchants argue on social media. A Muslim saving Jewish lives while politicians try to turn Jewish suffering into anti-Muslim propaganda is about as clear a moral contrast as you can get. Anyone still insisting our enemy is each other after that isn’t confused. They’re invested in division.

I'M SO AFRAID THAT IT WILL GO THE WAY OF SHOOTINGS IN THE USA. Shock, grief and then a collective amnesia. Having weapons readily available to malcontents it a problem and it will never be dealt with. So Australia is going to become like the States. Shock and grief and collective amnesia. This isn't just a problem for jews it's a problem for all beings from any country or religion.

Zionists are rejoicing. Another opportunity to demand double standards and special pleading, a chance to blame Iran so they can run screaming to their American thug.

Ahmed al Ahmed is a truly brave man, to step into this lethal situation. The statistics you wrote, show the true problem: GUN CONTROL. And the time to talk about it, and legislation, is NOW.

The U.S. is emotionally, mentally, out of control. Our Wild West history, and glorifying it, I've always thought, was the root of our problem. Not just here, but worldwide, misogyny, disrespect of females, adds to the problem -- I have many male friends with good intentions, empathy, but the underlying testosterone, seems to be a fact -- all species, in order to continue, need to procreate, but my god, testosterone, has its downside. And stupid RACISM, with no point, no sense, .... my neighbor with not-white skin, or a different religion, and their success, does not detract from me. Angelou says it best: "we are more alike, my friend, than we are unalike." How can some, see it so CLEARLY, and others, do not. Psychological studies show the difference b/w curious people who want to search, and black & white thinking, needing to be told what to do.

I knew the shooter/ murderer was white the minute I read they were looking into his "mental health background." ....

Thank you for your wise words and efforts all year to bring good info to people. I’m unsubscribing from all emails from all 20+ writers I follow until the new year, as need a complete break to recharge for next year. I’ve written a list and will be back. Just wanted to write a note in case ‘unsubscribe’ was misinterpreted. Peace to all.

Another tragic day. I watch the news every day to read about more and more. It is so overwhelming, I am sure, to all of us. This brave muslim man’s heroism lifted my spirits with a sense of hope. Maybe, just maybe, his heroism will be a catalyst to reverse this horrific course humanity seems to be stuck in.
