As Republicans Try to Gut Medicaid—Here's How You Can Help Stop Them
As you read this Republicans are working hard to serve billionaires—here is what's at stake and two ways we can fight back
Take a moment to think back to December 4, 2024. The day a man named Luigi Mangione allegedly killed the UnitedHealth CEO. Now fast forward to May 21, 2025. In the dead of night, MAGA Republicans entered the final stage of their sinister plan to gut Medicaid and Medicare, throwing tens of millions of people off life saving healthcare. On December 4, one person was killed. It made national headlines. Law enforcement launched a massive manhunt. CEOs hired extra security. Politicians repeated calls to denounce violence. And if human life is what we hold sacred above all else, then know this—the GOP budget cuts will kill far more Americans than Luigi Mangione ever could.
It begs the question—why do we express more outrage when a man with a gun allegedly kills one person, than we do when a politicians with pens deliberately kill tens of thousands? Let’s Address This.
Republicans Gut Medicaid for HELL Corporations
Last night at 1AM, while most Americans were asleep, House Republicans launched their campaign to ram through a cruel and catastrophic decision—slashing Medicaid, Medicare, and food assistance. Why? To appease billionaire donors and HELL Corporation CEOs. I link this below as well, but here’s a handy campaign to let your member of Congress know that you oppose their cuts to Medicaid. This move by Republicans is not fiscal responsibility—it is moral failure. People will die because of this campaign. And every Republican should be forced to look at their constituents in the eye and explain why billionaire greed matters more than basic human dignity.
According to The Lancet, America’s for-profit health system run by HELL Corporations1 is responsible for nearly 68,000 preventable deaths every year—that’s about 31,299 preventable deaths in the 168 days since the United Health CEO’s killing. Meanwhile, the WSJ reports that that DOJ has opened a criminal fraud investigation into UnitedHealth’s Medicare practices. This isn’t an isolated incident. Last year, a five-year investigation into UnitedHealth’s practices by the FTC found that, “OptumRx, the group's pharmacy benefit manager, along with its two main peers, Express Scripts and CVS Caremark Rx, have pocketed an extra $7.3 billion over cost thanks to price gouging” of overcharging cancer patients by more than 1000%.
These are the HELL Corporations that MAGA Republicans are bending a knee to, while tens of millions of Americans suffer. And sadly, it is not just MAGA Republicans.
Unity For Humanity Over Party Politics
First, let’s be clear that two things can be true at once. We can recognize that Republicans are openly repealing healthcare and capitulating to the for profit health exploitation industry—and we should oppose and categorically condemn these acts. And we can recognize that too many Democrats are sadly complicit and not doing enough to stop this assault on our health—and we also need to call that out. Until we stand united as Americans—above partisan politics—we will not have the healthcare we need to live.
For example, I have run for Congress twice, against two different members of Congress. Consider these facts from each of my runs for Congress. As you read these four facts, ask yourself what party you think my opponents belonged to?
Both of my opponents oppose guaranteed universal healthcare and have taken absurd amounts of money for their re-elections from HELL Corporations, including from UnitedHealth even as they exploit working Americans.
Both of my opponents then voted repeatedly to repeal the ACA, including repealing the protection on people with pre-existing conditions, and repealing the ban on charging women more than men for their healthcare.
Both of my opponents voted to gut the Americans with Disabilities Act to deny people with disabilities the right to sue when they face discrimination.
Both of my opponents are funded by Big Oil, which has enabled climate disaster and increased climate related health issues for tens of millions of people.
If you’re thinking that I probably ran against two different Republicans, you would be wrong. One of my opponents is a Republican named Rob Wittman. And the other opponent is a Democrat named Bill Foster. The hypocrisy, cowardice, and lack of a moral compass of both members of Congress is revolting—and that’s exactly why we cannot fall into the trap of being divided on this issue.
The Call to Action: Stand Against Corporate Exploitation
Conservative or Progressive, Independent or Centrist — I hope you stand united with all our neighbors in this country and take action to protect our healthcare. Here are two quick, free, and easy calls to action:
Call Your Member of Congress: Dial 866-426-2631 and demand they oppose Medicaid cuts. Share your personal healthcare story.
Email Your Lawmaker: Use this easy tool: caring.nu/protect-medicaid-2025. Tell them care matters more than tax breaks for billionaires.
Conclusion
Think about this. In the 168 days since the UnitedHealth CEO was killed, nearly 32,000 Americans have died due to lack of healthcare access due to these exploitative HELL Corporations. And 168 days from now, some 32,000 more Americans will have died a similar fate. And I am willing to bet this is likely the first time you heard this horrifying fact so much as acknowledged by any corporate media outlet. This is the goal of HELL Corporations, the complicity of corporate funded politicians, and the failure of corporate media.
And rather than working to strengthen healthcare access, MAGA Republicans are emboldened to strip it away and deny tens of millions more people access to the life saving care they need to live. This is why we must keep going. Let’s hold the powerful accountable. And let’s never stop calling out injustice.
We must stop using the sanitized term “health insurance companies” to describe what these corporations actually do. These are not benevolent entities that insure health or care—they exploit illness. And after denying us access to the care we need, they limit their own liability. Therefore, I call them what they are: Health Exploitation Limited Liability Corporations. Or, more succinctly: HELL Corporations.
It begs the question—why do we express more outrage when a man with a gun allegedly kills one person, than we do when a politicians with pens deliberately kill tens of thousands? - SO PERFECTLY STATED, QASIM RASHID!
It makes me so angry how they want to take people and children health care away and see people dying and not getting their medications and treatments because they are sick cruel and evil. But yet they’re giving Ashley Babbitt Family 5 million dollars rewarding them for her criminal actions on that horrible Jan 6 day. But are willing to let Americans lose their healthcare and their lives. Sickening and disgusting.
