I have a strong feeling, not based in fact, that the powers who control everything, will be going after substack. They are on a quest to control all information that reaches us. They are out to destroy all creative ideas and freedom. They are telling us what they are going to do. The will not be challenged.
Substack is owned by a cabal of billionaires. Although I'm grateful that it has not cherry-picked and censored to the extent that the rest of the mainstream and progressive media, I back-up my subscriber list everyday.
I can't imagine what it would be like if we didn't have the internet, but it has risks as well as rewards. Anyone who tries ChatGPT has got to be alarmed that it is a machine that is responding in a thoroughly human way and with instant access to essentially infinite amounts of data. You can hold a full conversation with Chat and there is no human being on the other end.
Stupid question: what ever happened to the agency that used to put a stop to mega- mergers of any kind? Oh....right...the dirt bag got rid of that!
Many years ago, when I finally cut the cables cord, I felt sad because I would miss my news! HA! Now that I have Qasim to read/watch (along with a few select platforms), i don't need cable & their BS!
Since I started trusting excellent journalists like Qasim, I listen to mainstream news only to wonder at the real news I wasn't getting before. SO much that I learn from independent journalists that I never hear on mainstream! I was hearing anemic, slanted news before. What the "underwriters" want you to hear.
When Joe Biden proudly declared himself a Zionist, a supporter of ethnic cleansing, and mainstream media did not ask a single question about this declaration that rejects liberty and justice for all by the US president!!! What further proof is needed that MSM is no questioner of power?
Don't deport them, heavily tax them as was done decades ago. If they threaten to leave the US as a result of being taxed, then show them the door. People who are not satisfied with any amount of money would still be driven to get 1/10th of what they do now. It is their ranking among their peers that they crave. They walk away with the store because we let them. One person having the power of billions of dollars is as undemocratic as can be.
Wild how every time a billionaire buys a media outlet, we’re told it’s about “saving journalism,” and somehow journalism ends up gagged in a basement with duct tape over its mouth. Independent voices aren’t a luxury anymore, they’re the only thing keeping the public square from becoming one guy’s group chat.
At the risk of citing mainstream media, there's a graphic about halfway down this article that shows the interconnected deals going on among the handful of giant tech companies. We need a graphic or chart of some sort (maybe a bubble chart) to help us visualize the ridiculous power and relative size compared to rest of the market that the billionaires who own mainstream media wield. Any loyal readers here up to the task or, if you've already seen a chart/visual like this somewhere, will you please reply with the link? https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/openai-nvidia-amd-deals-risks-rcna234806
As you contemplate celebrating your hollowdays, please also contemplate the current atrocities and fascism executed in your name. Missions like these occurred, and still occur, on a daily basis around the globe. As you watch others struggle, or you struggle to eat or pay for food, clothing, shelter, children, health, taxes, leisure, et al… be aware that each single covert mission, like these, performed by Rangers, SEALS, Green Berets, Scouts, MEF, etc… costs from $1,000,000 minimum to several million; and on average since WW2 these missions occur at an average of 30 per month worldwide; and that many of them are part of on-going Operations costing billions in revolving credit; leading to a debt of $39,000,000,000,000+, incurred by the poor for the rich and predation. Wouldn’t Jesus be proud?
Another authoritarian move that is related to censorship is restricting public education. You cannot have a real democracy without a literate population. I think this was part of the reason we lost the war in Vietnam.
I find it disturbing that billionaires are gaining outsized influence on the workings of the federal government. If they control the major press outlets, we are surely in trouble, because the free press is supposed to act as a fourth estate, checking the powers of the three branches of government. There are many famous quotes to this effect, from Thomas Jefferson to Walter Cronkite. Here is one by Justice Hugo Black:
“In the First Amendment, the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was to serve the governed, not the governors. The government’s power to censor the press was abolished so that the press would remain forever free to censure the government. The press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of government and inform the people.” — Hugo Black, U.S. Supreme Court justice
Qasim, I have a question perhaps you can answer. Is there any other country where the govt of that country is the personal family business of the leader of that country? Because, when you look at the whole picture, the US is now a Trump family business. Think about it. And I'm wondering if there is another example of this.

Things haven’t been the same since Dan Rather “retired.”

DEPORT the billionaires!

Yes! I love your solution! And I agree wholeheartedly!

No monopolies. The only way is for them to lose money. We have to have a Fifth Estate, with the truth that constantly shows them up.
Unfortunately, they are connected to sports and entertainment. Something people won't give up. Or???

This should be part of your listing. Right after LETS ADDRESS THIS have a comment "none of the follow needed to approved by a billionaire"

Thanks, you are the best Substacker, Qasim.
Qasim thank you for your reporting on things we need to hear. Peace to you ✌🏻
"Taking over"? That ship set sail a long time ago.
