Get ICE off our streets. Defund Homeland Security. Fire and prosecute Noem. Charge all ICE bullies who’ve committed crimes against Americans and people in the process of trying to to obtain American citizenship. Phew! The we go after Trump and his cabinet flunkies, JD, and Mike Johnson. It’s going to be a busy year saving America!

Messaged both my Senators calling on them to encourage Schumer to resign. Why? For not recognizing ICE abuses for the fascist acts they are.

Another one? How many shutdowns are we going to have before America gets its act together?

Huh?? Hope this isn’t clickbait; I like your work! TBF much of the traditional media is confused on this also. The only department involved (word “shutdown” is laughable) is DHS: ICE, FEMA (which Noem has already neutered), Coast Guard, TSA--all of which already have plenty of funds through this FY. Every other US dept has been fully funded through end of FY (Sept 30)--that vote happened last week with Dem agreement. And unfortunatey DHS already is rolling in $$$ for this FY and beyond from OBBB which tripled (!) their ICE budget over FY25 levels. This is actually a Dem gambit to ride and increase huge public anger against ICE--65% of public now says ICE has gone too far. Real goal is to strengthen Dem position in FY27 budgeting talks, with the first schedule in committes this month--that's the play here, not some December-style government “shutdown.”

To see these polls is more depressing than anything

The analysis is spot on, however, thinking dems will kow-tow to our wishes rather than corporate money seems unrealistic. Nonetheless, I continue to spread the word, make the calls, send the letters - but for self respect rather than belief in corporate democrats’ moral or political aptitudes.

Lucy pulling the football would be funny if it didn’t keep breaking the same ankles.

Every time: bold talk, dramatic pause, then a last-second surrender dressed up as “responsibility.” At some point it’s not strategy, it’s muscle memory.

Totally off-topic here but I couldn’t wait:

https://www.wonkette.com/p/congratulations-aipac-you-played

AIPAC Curious Democratic favorite for Mikkie Sherril’s former House seat Tom Malinowski just conceded in his primary loss to progressive, pro-abolish ICE Analilia Mejia.

Take note any of ye Democrats who think abolish ICE is a position too “extreme” to win with. Meija’s campaign didn’t even mention AIPAC, but they poured over $2 *million* into Malinowski, and were left with “Nothing. Not even the fee for the gaming licenses.”

Qasim,

I am a big fan of your work and a supporter.

Please do not allow the conversation about ICE to gloss over its links to the Epstein files and Zionist organizations to manipulate media, policy and governance. The effort must not be only about ICE - it must include taking down its right-wing backers and those who own & control them.

Chuck Schumer needs to go. In fact checkout what Iceland did when they were floundering economically and politically. Get rid of all the men and bring in the women. They work for the country, the men and the women. They saved Iceland with five women in all the power positions. Men prefer the fight. Women talk and work for the greater good!

Not sure on the rest of the narrative but in full agreement that Schumer must go.

Thank you, Qasim! You spoke nothing but the truth and were kind enough to give us instructions on what we can, and should, do. Bravo!

Thank you for calling for accountability and for standing for the projects that matter. Unfortunately, money and incompetence rule the Congress and Senate, continually the “people” of America that vote these representatives year in and out shut down the progress of change because they don’t really pay attention to what is being done year after years. Our representatives are controlled by the money makers for their re-elections. The citizens of America year after year vote

Blindly and never consider what is really taking place in Washington. No effort, no commitment to change equals no change, business as usual. I believe it’s time the people change the tenure of our politicians to no more than two terms and then it’s “ your out”, we have new leaders coming. No money paid by corporations to sway the minds d our elected officials. Until that takes place you are blowing wind and getting frustrated. 😣

Schumer needs to go. Last round was bad enough. I am glad I'm not a registered Democrat right now

I never can find my way to disagree with you- so far- but I gotta say that Chuck Schumer has one of the hardest jobs in the world and your article shows that democratic leadership is disadvantaged in the way Jonathan Haidt teaches us in his book: The righteous Mind. We don’t respect authority for just being authority. We are not tribal and will turn on each other over issues and principles we cannot individually abandon no matter what. We care about freedom and people.

This is a good time to look at what Haidt learned when he attempted to study what is wrong with conservatives, only to find that they have more touch points in decision making that looks a lot like resistance to overall good. We have two touch points: freedom, including freedom from harm, and caring about our fellow humans. We are rather binary even as liberal has a way better definition than conservative.

Unlike republicans, We are not loyal to leaders who trade our principles for expediency or to even to keep things going- like government functions. Since we cannot risk a continuing Republican power grab- seeing the harm that does to more than principles- people- we need to figure out how to be a better coalition of principled people with better new guard leadership that does not waiver in the fight for justice. And we need to not hijack ourselves with issues too many are not yet on board with- ergo the attempts of educating through sub stack. Slow and steady doesn’t seem to win the race anymore. We have to formulate the best answers through our discourse but I dislike the approach of throw the baby out with the bath water. Oh yeah- and I loved Schumer in the impeachment trial. I do think he is principled but totally overwhelmed with issues. I’m excited to see how many new motivated caring competent candidates are running on the democratic side. May they all win in a landslide! And may they all quit asking me for money by text every hour. Dens seem to be winning even when their funding is lopsided. Oh may this next election get us on a new course towards more fairness, more justice, more law abiding officials and more access to truth by the American electorate. Thanks for really putting yourself out there to save the rest of us.
