The Puritans were persecuted by the established church, the Huguenots were persecuted by the Catholics, German-Anericans were shunned during WWI, in New England and New Orleans Italians were persecuted by mobs in the early 20th century, "No Irish need apply" was a sign put up in many cities, Japanese-Americans were sent to internment camps, native Americans were confined to reservations and suffered the theft of their children sent to boarding schools that deprived them of their culture as well as their family, etc.
The grandparents of those issuing these profane and violent threats very likely themselves suffered prejudiced insults. I always try my best to fight against Islamophobia wherever I see it, but it never seems like it's enough. Americans are such hateful people these days, and it seems like it's just getting worse.

I cannot begin to imagine what you or any member of the groups singled out for this treatment are going through. I can have empathy and be a loud voice or be a person who can stand by someone, but it isn't the same. I vowed to learn more about the history of Black Americans to try to help my biracial children. We cannot allow this regime to erase human empathy from this nation. Without it we are in deep trouble.
