My rep is a republican so no surprise for me but with the redistricting I should have a democrat next year. My first question will be about this thank you. It feels like they are selling out.
So LIVID, APPALLED at these NY Dems - Jeffries, Clarke, Meng, Nadler, Latimer, Gillen for voting for the TRUMP anti choice, billions more to Israel, and slamming down against Palestinian statehood...so shameful. Thankful for AOC, Goldman and Velazquez for their morals and sanity.
153 House Democrats, four of them from my state of Massachusetts (although not my congressman, small comfort). The number should have been zero. Not so coincidentally enough, that number also represents the Democrats' prospects for November of this year, and for 2028, should we get that far.
Though Jan Schakowsky (IL-9) is retiring as you note, all should be alert to the person she has endorsed to succeed her, Daniel Biss. As a state senator he voted for an anti-BDS bill and he will surely keep supporting Israel if elected to Congress. NO! Laura Fine is also hoping for the House seat and she, too, as state representative, voted for the anti-BDS bill and is currently supported by AIPAC. DO NOT SEND BISS or FINE TO CONGRESS if you are a voter in the 9th District of Illinois.
The Schakowsky seat should go to Kat Abughazaleh whose grandfather was Palestinian and who is openly against sending money and weapons to Israel. Rejecting all PAC money, she has nevertheless matched Biss in total collections, all from small donors. She is very intelligent, can speak at length with effortless self-possession and has the fire needed to help turn around Congress from the awful state it is in.
Note: In a debate among the candidates last night both Biss and Fine could offer nothing other than support of the "two state solution" that has been dead for two decades, an empty talking point that HR 7006 does its best to make impossible.
This is all amazing info, Qasim. Some of the votes did not surprise me. But PA's Scott Perry (not my favorite flavor) voted nay. I'm astonished by that.
I looked at the list of Democrats voting yea. Surprised by some like Crockett but not so much by others like Jeffries. At least my Rep Espaillat voted nay but I know who not to ever donate to and request being unsubscribed from their mailing lists, the yea voters. I spend more time than I would like unsubscribing from appeals. The texts are like spam.
No one seems to understand that these reps don't work for us... They haven't for a long time. I refuse to donate, I don't write to them anymore. They don't represent us. Look at Minnesota... Leaders telling folks to stand down. This is all a big lie. All this country does is fuel colonization and genocide everywhere on our broken backs. They'll take away both abortion and contraception because that's the way to force the birth of a new, desperately poor workforce. We just keep feeding into it because we're stupid and asleep.
My congressjerk, Ro Khanna, voted in favor of this. I'm beyond furious at him, but also puzzled. He has recently seemed to have decided that being pro-Palestine was more useful politically, and he's been going on about how he opposes more weapons to Israel, and supports Palestinian rights, yadda, yadda. How does he think this is going to help him? My side hates him because we can't count on him, and AIPAC hates him for the few times he's actually supported Palestinian rights.
And I also want to urge all of us to support those few truly decent Dems, the few who voted against this awfull bill and have been decent in other ways as well. We shouldn't forget that we have a few, a very few, decent people in congress.

Unconscionable is not a strong enough word.

Quigley is running for Mayor of Chicago. We can’t let that happen.

This is SO bloody informative!! Thank you, Qasim.
I think I read somewhere that this bill further blocks U.S. funding of UNRWA? Is this true?
Yes.

He is saying he didn’t know the $3.3B was in there. Odd at best.
