Years ago I learned an astounding fact: The poorest province in Canada consistently gives to charity on a per capita basis, more than any other of the richer provinces. Newfoundland and Labrador have endured generations of exploitation and poverty - they understand the urgent value of mutual aid. So must we all!

As a teacher in the 80s- 2016 I had every kind of student in my low income schools. They were 7th-12th grade at different times. I never asked their religion but twice I had a Muslim student ask to use my room to pray because it was too noisy outside. They weren’t bothered by the other students they just wanted peace. Before I knew it my room became quiet place at lunch for some kids I didn’t know. Why other people couldn’t accept these kids I’ll never know. I’m so glad you and Mamdani and others are out there showing there is nothing to fear.
I was fortunate to have teachers like you. I cannot express in words how much I cherished them for providing that moment of solitude I needed through the day. Thank you, Deborah ❤️✊🏽
That is an outrageous DM. You are absolutely correct Qasim. None of us are free until all of us are free. It is so easy to spew hate because it requires no thought. Kindness and progress towards a better life requires all of us to become critical thinkers and place ourselves in the shoes of other people’s lives. If hatred wins, none of us will have quality of life. The oligarchs win and we all become the servants. We are already on our way to lose hard fought for freedoms.
