Wow. I am beyond grateful for this incredible response full of compassion, commitment to justice, and yes, several thousand new subscribers aligned on those values.

This is why I love this community we've built. Let's Address This was always meant to foster a community of thoughtful, sincere, compassionate people unapologetically committed to justice for all humanity -- and it is just so inspiring to see that community grow more and more each day.

I wish I could respond to each comment 1 by 1 but with already 500+ on Substack alone, it's not practical. I did, however, make sure to read through all of them and like as many as I could. I think I got just about all of them as of the posting of this comment. In any case, thank you to our new community members, free and paid, know that I cherish your trust and support. Let's continue to build and demand justice for all in our nation and world ❤️✊🏽

It is important to apply the same principles no matter the identity of the wrongdoer, that much is true. But i5 i# also true that there is a limited bandwidth, the number of stories we can tell and we can read. Given that, it is incumbent on us to choose wisely, prioritize the worst offenses, the greatest harm done, the worst dangers for our collective future. And it is in that sense that I find spending time taking shots at our allies for failing to meet the moment is such a self-defeating waste of time. Why are we chasing down our friends for jaywalking when the entire republican party is conspiring to commit murder against law abiding citizens? I wouldn’t argue to spare anyone just because, for example, they are a member of the Democratic Party; look at the even-handed way dems are trying to investigate the Epstein co-conspirators, that’s a good model. But if the question is “who’s responsible for our current nightmare,” the minority party is the very least of it. I’d love for them to be doing more, too, but that’s not going to amount to anything until we have the votes. Until then, why not pick targets that might help with that, expose the people who are actually destroying our country?

We are not in a battle between Democrats and Republicans we are in a battle between Authoritarians and Totalitarians. The present regime wants total control over BOTH what people do and think, their only opposition are Authoritarians who believe they have moral authority because they just want total control of what you do, you can think whatever you want. . . What we need is a government capable of solving problems, but we have a government obsessed with controlling people. It makes trying to be impartial the most difficult position to hold.

Tell us your thoughts on the influence of AIPAC on Democrat representatives voting to fund ICE?

I applaud you for standing your ground, despite losing subscribers. You gained a new one in me! (and many others here, as i see) The topics you discuss are nuanced, not black and white, and its important to look at things critically instead of defaulting to tribalism like so many people seem to do. Excited to follow along.

I am subscribing for the same reason that others have unsubscribed... because Democrats need to hear the truth about how they are not meeting the moment in fighting this fascist administration in every way possible. As a grassroots activist I am disappointed in the lack of leadership and moral courage needed by those at the top proving they care about saving our Democracy as much as we do. They need to hear the truth from someone outside their comfort zone. So, keep it up!

From across the Atlantic, Republicans and Democrats look like two sides of the same donor coin. Donor politics and investor politics, with politicians fluffing the Tech Bros, are destroying our planet and our world. Democrats need to embrace a whole new thing. I can never unsee delegates laughing at protesters against the genocide Biden/Harris funded with glee in Gaza. There is no quick fix to the Trump junta. That Kamala/brunch thing is all kinds of stupid. Democrats should take a psychological approach but imo its leaders and commentariat insiders appear to lack the necessary insight or understanding. Obsessing over bruises instead of addressing matters of substance.

And if I told you that for every subscriber you lost you will gain another who aligns with your values? So keep on keeping on.

Democrats (the good Democrats) are our only hope of fixing the nightmare in which we currently find ourselves. Sadly, most Democrats are worthless, or worse.

I applaud you. 👏🏼

My maternal grandmother, a Salvation Army officer, told us that it was easy to do for others when it was convenient or emotionally comfortable; that the test of true friendship was to do for others when it was INconvient for us, or necessitated that we pass along an uncomfortable truth to help them find or reset their ethical and/or moral compass.

Just because a legislator belongs to a certain political party doesn’t mean their ethical compass 🧭 is pointing to true north, and we need to hold them accountable for their votes and treatment of the most vulnerable in our society. 🫤
