Thank you for this Qasim. I understand your focus on America but this is a global problem and women and children are often the most affected. Climate change does not affect America alone. It tends to affect the least polluting countries the most, and given the US and UK’s attitudes to refugees, there will be nowhere that is safe. What can you suggest, as action points, for those of us in other countries?
I am so thankful I found you -- love what ken taylor commented.
Unfortunately, because of aging parents, I moved to Texas -- I will not depart, because, tho I hate the evil, unethical 3-headed hydra, abbott, patrick, paxton, there is much work to be done here. Tomorrow, July 31, we will gather at the Capitol to protest illegal redistricting. Your readers may be surprised how many Dems there are in Texas.
mens rea, guilty mind, I am taken back to the Exxon Valdez, and what they did, KNOWING for years about their part in the wrecking of our environment. Yes, this is beyond civil, but need
CRIMINAL investigation. Arkush, a courageous man -- where are the repubs with ethics?! cruz is my senator in Texas, and he has not spoken a truthful word in his life. HE is the "wacky moonbeam," not Arkush.
Again, thanks Qasim, for being here for us, with your knowledge and wisdom.
thanks for letting me communicate, I live on eleven hundred and rent is $825, can't afford to subscribe...but you're work is important to me and I wish I could support you and those who are withdrawing their subscriptions are more the losers than you are, Mr. Qasim. I still love your name, it is beautiful and uplifting and enough to inspire me in your living up to your name.
...and of course the lives are always ready to be replaced...
it's not a new thing...thousands of both Chinese and Irish who built the transatlantic RR.died and bodies were always ready to take their place...workers, consumers, lives are not important.
When the black Lives Matter protests began, I mockingly told my friends, "of course they don't, no lives matter" if it is in the interest of authority to make it not so...'nothing new going on here...
and still it makes me angry. absurdly people thing their lives and their lives do matter; and they should matter...but up against the Buck, they never have.
You are so proactive in calling out injustice and helping us find a way to respond. This whole corporations are people thing needs to be the way we can begin to hold corporations accountable. Your knowledge is needed and much appreciated.
Why do I keep saying Philip Morris? Cigarette advertisements in the mid-20th century claimed that smoking was healthy, even promoting it as a way to stay slim and fit. In the 20th century, smoking-related illnesses caused an estimated 100 million deaths worldwide. This is more than the combined death toll of both World Wars. Big. Oil. Doesn't. Give. A. Fuck. Either.
I live in central Illinois. It’s very green and lush here in the summer—hot and humid (which is why we grow a lot of crops … natures greenhouse). This year? We had our first substantial rain just this last weekend since early June. The leaves on our apple trees and cherry trees are burned and falling to the ground. Today it’s predicted we’ll reach 110 degrees. I have water bowls all around my property for the little creatures and am struggling to water tomatoes enough to keep them alive. I’ve lived here all my life and I’ve never seen this kind of extended heat and drought.
Criminal has a harder burden of proof- beyond a reasonable doubt, rather than a preponderance of evidence, which is to say- it is more likely than not likely that they committed the offense. It is a real issue of what is the evidence that can get foundations laid for admissibility and then its weight for persuasion as well as proof with a jury. Still, as a former prosecutor in Illinois for nearly a decade, I agree they should be criminally liable.
Qasim, thanks for this. corporations have knowingly caused harm, and they need to face consequences for their actions. big oil has to be held accountable, as well as others.

Another well informed article that has not only enlightened me, but it has me thinking that it’s always about the money in this country.
Are there any states that are currently doing criminal investigations? If so, it would be good if we could mention models in our calls.

Time to destroy them like we did Big Tobacco (mostly).
Big Tobacco mostly just diversified, I’m afraid. But yes, we cut back tobacco sales substantially!
