Humanity has already changed the climate for the coming decades even if we were to stop burning fossil fuels today because so much has already been burned. Tens of millions of years of stored carbon released in the past 150 sentences humanity to climate change unprecedented in the 300,000 year history of our species.
This is shocking, astounding, phenomenal. Everyone should be talking about it but nobody is except scientists. We should be in a state of emergency to limit fossil fuel consumption, taxing carbon use. But the opposite is happening. We are buying bigger vehicles, the president says climate change is a hoax, people watch NASCAR races and think nothing of the pointless burning of fuel for entertainment. Some guy wins a race in which he and all of the rest of us lose.
Earthjustice is a worthy undertaking, but I confess to despair and disgust. Our way of life is unsustainable. Because it is what we have known all our lives we think it normal. A 150 pound mammal evolved to live within nature running and hunting on the savanna instead feels entitled to drive, alone, in a 2 or 3 ton metal box burning gasoline or to fly anywhere in the world 8 miles up in the air burning jet fuel for vacation or an exotic birthday party.
Suppose another mammal, bears for example, were so entitled. We would be outraged! How dare bears do such things taking so freely from nature leaving all other life on the planet behind? We would demand an immediate end to that theft by one species but it is exactly what we are doing with the rest of life helpless to stop us. What benefit do we confer on nature in return for our rapacious activity?
Nature is analog, digital technology is artificial. The digital world is copying and simulating nature down to every detail, eclipsing nature. So good is tech that AI is now set to leave the analog creatures (all life on Earth) that we are far behind killing the jobs we do and making us superfluous. Think of that! We human animals evolved with all our marvelous body, all of our intelligence gifted to us have designed an artificial replacement and we are doing nothing to stop the process. Build those data centers ASAP say the profit making 1%.
Simply put, we are committing suicide for the natural world taking all of life on earth along for the "benefits" only we receive, but in the meantime as you hear so often for those who wish to profit by pushing us along the way, enjoy!
in all of this - and amongst the hope of the 'one day' seeing the end of this administration - it is becoming more and more difficult to fathom the repair.. where does one begin to start to rewrite this - that is one HUGE thing that the next administration (which hopefully holds none of the same views) has to start to consider, because with no time to waste they will have to hit the ground running to literally overturn the vast damage as quickly as possible.. and I am staying hopeful whilst others are saying it nears impossible

I have supported EarthJustice for many years, and completely agree with you - they are terrific! And as is obvious in so many of our situations of fighting this corrupt administration, the Courts seem to be where we have the best chance of winning. (Until we can throw out this Congress, anyway!)

Someone posted a video of a 200 year old tree getting prepared to be cut down for a totally unnecessary border wall. I think it’s too late for that tree, but I think further construction has been halted as it goes to court. I hope this litigation is slow-walked until we can stop it and all this destruction.

This was recognized over 20 years ago when the USA Congress set aside large tracts of forest and other wild zones in the Roadless Area and established the Roadless Rule that these lands would not be sold or timber cut or wetlands developed or destroyed. Trump wants to sell these lands to private owners. This will harm the Planet and our economy as much of this land will be used as collateral for US Guaranteed Loans, through Banks and lending institutions and falsely used as collateral for other loans and projects. Some forest lands will be cut and no protections for sreams and rivers, with forest cuts that will destroy watershed that now provides water to our cities. YOU can make a PUBLIC Comment to Stop the sales by registering NO to violation of the "Roadless Rule".
