Thank you for this important information. We are already feeling the effects of these climate changes, but unless something changes soon, our grandchildren and their descendants will pay an even higher price for the profits of Big Oil.
Wild how Big Oil basically speedran the villain arc. They had the science. They had the charts. They had the “hey guys, maybe don’t boil the planet” memos. And their response was to fire the scientists and hire the marketing department. It’s like discovering your house is on fire and deciding the solution is… to gaslight the smoke alarm.
They didn’t just lie. They built an entire religion around the lie and tithed the rest of us into climate purgatory.
Brilliant piece. If accountability ever arrives, I hope it shows up with the enthusiasm of a Category 5 storm they swore was “just weather.”
I can't agree more with this post. It is so obvious to even us lay observers. No surprise that Big Oil has done the same as big tobacco and big Pharma with the Opiods.
Exxon gave me hundreds of boxes of discovery with people’s vacation photos so it would be near impossible to find the alarming reports of their on going knowledge of poisoning drinking water in the germantown area of Illinois. The Illinois government gave them a pass on enforcement with a covenant not to sue and paid to hook folks up to another supply of water. And that was from a democratic attorney general. I ultimately lost including when I sued secretary Jewel to pull the Illinois coal program so I could enforce as the Illinois Supreme Court read the law right out of the law when they said no right to sue when the identical federal law gave the right to the system is rigged in so many ways even as lawyers figure it out. We need better government at all levels.
Thank you for all the work you do, especially for fighting the abuse to which oil and gas companies subject everyone. I will be 69 in a month and since I moved to Albuquerque NM 6 years ago, my asthma and allergies have significantly worsened. The legislators and officials all take money from O&G, AIPAC and private equity.
I guess you don't believe Pam Bondi who said DJT has single-handedly prevented storms from reaching the US! You know, the way Santa Claus brings presents to you down your chimney!
Sounds a lot like the tobacco companies who knew cigarettes were a serious health hazard long before the general public. The cigarette companies were smart enough to diversify when the facts came out and people started quitting. The oil companies never really did that. They are basically into petroleum and petroleum based plastics. Many years ago, Mobil sold off Montgomery Wards, which later disappeared.
Thank you. These companies should be held accountable in some way,but now there are no guardrails available due to drump. EPA gutted. Maybe other countries might step up and coordinate some type of action, The EU and Scandinavian countries.
In high school in the 1960's we all wanted a "hot" car, preferably with a big engine and bigger footprint. Owning your own car was a rite of passage for teen-agers in that decade. Then we went to Vietnam and no longer cared about anything but survival. Now survival is on the line for our planet.

Big Oil copied Big Tobacco in the 50's. They knew it caused cancer but denied it.

Thank you for your work on this. It really is astounding that this country sold out so many things to big business.

Great article and I love the photo!

Not only that….also this in NM. Even taxing the companies won’t repair the ozone damage. https://sourcenm.com/2025/12/05/data-center-project-jupiters-greenhouse-gas-emissions-could-rival-nms-largest-cities/
Kinda like the tobacco companies. And more recently--as in now--AIPAC.
