I do recall he said he was going to do so during the campaign. I don't see any reason, therefore, to be shocked, because I thought all along that that was his intent.

Monday the regime also arrested Mohsen Mahdawi , also a green card holder. On the day he was suppose to have his citizenship interview.

Thank you for writing this article and speaking out. I cannot believe the Democrats that voted for the fascist Laken Riley Act. What kind of world are they fighting for? Naming names on my Facebook page and calling them out. Donald Trump can only be so strong as when our opposition is weak. I'll echo the words of several of my Vermont representatives, I don't recognize this country anymore.

Excellent article! However, I think that the United States has always had the potential to turn into a fascist nation. I mean, this country was never really great (unless you were a white property-holding Christian male) for most of its history. We're just now seeing this play out because the mask/veneer of the United States being "a democracy" is being ripped off, and we're now seeing the ugly truth that's always been lurking underneath the surface. Sorry, just my thoughts on this.

I'm done with this government. It's time we all stand together and reject their authority entirely. Build up our communities, house the unhoused, feed the hungry, provide care for those who need it, stop letting them kidnap people. Fuck this fascist government.

Another critical column by Qasim Rashid! I will repost this on my Facebook page. As my sister said to me recently, we are actually glad our parents are not alive to witness this disintegration of the United States. Our mother's parents left Ukraine (under the Russian Pale) in 1909, and my father's family left Lithuania (under the Russian Pale) in the 1880s. This return to the sort of irrational, hateful, Czarist fascism they left is sheer insanity.

We don't 'build' as much here as we once did so a more apt headline would be 'America outsources concentration camp'

Trump is outsourcing concentration camps so people have no opportunity to see them. Seeing is believing.

I am shocked and disgusted by the 12 Democratic Senators and the 60 Democratic House members who voted to pass the deplorable Laken Riley Act, especially the minorities on the lists. They, of all people, should know the struggles of non-Whites and non-Christians. I don't see an end to trump and his treasonous acts and crimes against humanity.

We are in a hitleresque regime and something has to happen to end this tyranny. We are heading into the final throws of fascism and this will be the cry of the land, and it will be too late to stop dictator trump:

"First they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me."

It's truly depressing, but I am confident we will emerge from this. Fascism doesn't last. Justice will prevail.

Yes, it is truly depressing. Everyday I start to cry when I read what is happening. I am truly glad you are confident that we will emerge from this, but the path of destruction, that has been created, may never be reversed. What is going on, with the deportation to El Salvador, and that he wants to build 5 more prisons to house American criminals, is an abomination of people's rights. There will be MAGATS, who will have family members who will end up in El Salvador, and they may never see them again. It is still not enough to wake them up. Justice may not get a chance to prevail because trump is ignoring and/or breaking the laws, and his RetrumpliKKKans are doing all his bidding, and he has the Supreme Court on his side. trump needs to be removed from office, sooner than later, to stop this. I am afraid that the creators of Project 2025 will have him declared unfit to remain president, and have vance take over, and they will implement their entire manifesto. Sorry to be such a pessimist but I never thought in my lifetime I would ever live under a hitler imitator. I had many family members die in the holocaust, so my thoughts are can you imagine what this world would be like if hitler was eliminated before he became the fuhrer? Too late now with trump.

Well done Counselor! I do not see the bad faith actors stopping. But, I do believe this. This is all an oil check on the SC Republican justices. Look at this in this perspective. If they rule as they should, the Felon will shout I respect the Law, see! If they let him slide, he will move to the next step, FULL DICTATORSHIP! They already gave him the get out of jail card. What should concern him? But in that, he is a fool. But he has always been a fool. The people are stirring. The water in the kettle is bubbling. It is getting warmer every day. He will overplay the situation. He has done that his entire sorry life. Remember King Louis & M. Antoinette? They committed serious actions, but viewed them as games. Life is not a game! They didn’t care for the rule of Law, then the people that came for them didn’t care about the Law either! Will history repeat? I hope not. But, that is not in control of us. But, it will end up in control of the common people!

El Salvador is now HELL Salvador concentration camp!! FOTUS used the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 claiming some kind of twisted war justification, so these people are prisoners of war. Why then isn't there a minimum standard of ethical treatment and care of these POWs?

Geneva Convention Article 13

Prisoners of war must at all times be humanely treated. Any unlawful act or omission by the Detaining Power causing death or seriously endangering the health of a prisoner of war in its custody is prohibited, and will be regarded as a serious breach of the present Convention.

Dear Lord in heaven, how can anyone still support this monster in our midst? Pure evil!

I am not at all sure there is a bona fide democratic party left in this nation. All those who voted to enable the Laken Riley act in a knee jerk fit of white supremacy, could be the "collateral damage" when the proletariat, rises in wrath and despair. Giant criminal corporations who pay off politicians wield the power to unseat them whenever they please, as do oligarchs. Unless we reform elections and ditch "Citizens United" we will never reclaim our democratic republic.
