Thank you to Diana Buttu and to you for bringing the Truth, as hard as it might be, for us to hear. Yes, it is important to not just use statistics but to continue to give names, and if possible their stories. Those who have been slaughtered were human beings. They were a child, a woman, a mother, a wife, a husband, a grandmother, grandfather, a doctor, journalist… and so many more. Each had a name and their story… we must tell each story. These people cannot be allowed to disappear because it’s too painful to speak of their lives.
Listening to your guest tell what's really happening in Gaza and what came before 10/7 is heartbreaking. I know as they say "war is hell" but when that phrase was coined we were still fighting war from the trenches and hand to hand combat. With the development of drones and fighter planes and smarter bombing raids, we are witnessing war's ability to kill many from a distance. The attackers don't always see the blood spilled or hear the screams of anguish from the families. That is why people cannot get to grips with the human suffering. The indiscriminate killing of children and the raping of women isn't on the news. The Israelis have led the propaganda. They cry and moan over one day that took some of their people, which, though tragic shouldn't justify what they are doing in capitulation. These Palestinians weren't the ones who kidnapped their people. Hamas is a military/political group that Palestinians don't necessarily support. If you say such things they condemn you as "anti-semitic" which they seem to think means you don't have a right to criticise! At the beginning there were some Israelis who were angry at the governments response and tried to speak out but I've noticed that those voices have also been silenced. Ukraine And Gaza are different but at the same time they are alike. A large oppressive foe trying to put down a smaller one and for the same reason. They want control of their land and to wipe out the people who live on it. The Israelis will never have peace after this. I wonder if now, they think it was worth all the brutality that they have enacted? Wether justice prevails or not, I'm afraid I don't hold out much hope for it, I suspect the people of Israel will be haunted for this butchering for they entire lives. What they are doing is no different in some respects to what happened to them in Nazi Germany. History will be as unkind to them as they were to the Nazis.
Women in particular need to speak out more against the atrocities of war as your guest today has. It makes it harder for people to hear the truth about the effects of war on children when a woman is telling the story. At a point when the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza had clearly been recognized as genocide Norah O'Donnell left, or was possibly asked to leave her position as the anchor of the CBS Evening News. It may be that CBS was pressured to make this change. If so, they should be ashamed of themselves. It makes them complicit.
You're right; they are committing crimes against humanity, and I hope they are brought to justice. My heart hurts when I see what is happening in Gaza. I write letters to my senators and congressman regarding these atrocities.
Empathy and humanity must be cultivated early, at home. The examples we set become social foundation, and once hatred and indifference take root it is difficult to correct the damage.
I disagree that "nothing justify 10/7" This is Palestinian resistance. In my opinion it was absolutely justified. But nothing justify war crimes i.e killing civilians and taking civilians hostage. About taking civilians hostage, ironically they probably ended up saving hostages lives by taking them to Gaza considering the Hannibal Directive. We know that Israel killed Israeli civilians that was being abducted. And we know Israel have both consciously and inadvertantly killed Hamas hostages. And we know some Hamas leaders have expressed remorse for 10/7. If we ask what would happen if Hamas was not there, if Hamas didn't attack Israel. We can look at the West Bank. That already prior to 10/7 , 2023 was the deadliest year on record for the West Bank. And now it has gotten worse than ever. And everything that happened there is unprovoked.
I think they said that, "we are told that nothing justifies 10/7 but that 10/7 justifies everything [the Israelis have done], not that Buttu and Rashid believe that.

" . . . committed to justice for all people, Muslim, Christian, and Jewish . . . . If only Bibi had any desire for there to even exist Muslims! I have been astounded at what has taken place since October 7th. Bibi's regime has taken a page from Hitler's playbook, and every Palestinian killed has a USA bullet or shrapnel in his body. There are no words. But more people are waking up to this genocide. https://www.thenorthstar.com/p/life-expectancy-for-men-in-gaza-dropped?img=https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F6caec9dd-877c-49c7-a074-7df55ba6a38f_768x432.heic&open=false

She's quoting what the claim is from those defending the genocide post 10/7.
I see, I misunderstood.
You know, we would all be better people if could agree that "Thou shalt not commit murder." No exceptions.
