Very glad to have you lay this out there. In my Criminal Justice minor, we studied court rulings and how the amendments apply. As you say, lifetime appointments and no recall procedures are the bane of SCOTUS. Decisions and presidents are important, which you as a lawyer know. I've done Jury Duty with some fine judges, and heard arguments that skirt the letter or intent of the law, but I know that, with great power comes great responsibility. While I'm not sure that expanding the court is the answer, judicial term limits are, and there must be a way to mount judicial recall at all levels. We, the lay people don't often understand the workings of the courts and how decisions can effect our every day lives. Score one for Whatcom County, Washington (State), who just had their second "Open Court Education Day" in which all of us had a chance to tour the courts, learn the functions, and ask questions.

The Democrats who are in power now had that chance when Biden was president. Since a majority of them are wholly bought and paid for by the same corrupt corporate entities as the Republicans, they refused to do anything. And if the same Democrats have another opportunity, they'll do nothing next time around too. How can we hope for and expect a real opposition party to act boldly when at least half of them are working in tandem with the GOP to make sure there is no real progress that helps anyone but their rich benefactors? Until they're gone, ie. Jeffries, Muskowitz, Gillibrand, Schumer, Booker, etc, we are doomed. They have not and will not help this country move forward as a better place for all of us.
"Vote blue no matter who" will not inspire anyone to vote for Democrats. Those days are over. And the Democrats above have all been eager to work across the aisle with a party that spits in our face while giving us nothing. A lot of us are fed up with the so-called centrists that would rather side with the GOP than with their own base.
Parading around with Liz Cheney while ignoring her base over the horrors of Gaza cost her the election. I can't bring myself to vote for anyone who doesn't commit to ending our sick connection to Israel.
I can't imagine the frustration of the members of the SC that are not there for Trump. They must sit and watch helplessly as majority rule overrides the good of the nation time and time again. The founders thought they had provided a check on power with division of power, but as we have learned even the best of plans can be overcome by power. The last barrier to the sustained victory of money/power is in our vote and Trump is doing all he can to subvert that.
Appointing judges who rule with impunity for life is opening the gate to all this injustice. We need to set mandatory retirement requirements (80?), an enforceable Code of Ethics and liaison relationships between the three government powers. We also need a process to impeach judges, at all levels.
I am sad to say I fully agree. To make matters worse, we were mostly raised to believe that we were the best, the brightest, the freest, the wealthiest country on the planet. The wealthiest maybe, but only for some. And those wealth holders and the COURT are willing let the US deteriorate in numerous ways (schools, infrastructure, poverty, homelessness) as long as it does not affect the wealth holders. I do wonder how proud they can possibly be about our continued deterioration.

From where I’m sitting three are illegitimate. Gorsuch because Mitch may-karma-be-a-bitch-Mitch McConnell held the seat open for a year until Obama was out of office. Kavanaugh having been credibly accused of sexual abuse, was still confirmed after an FBI investigation into the allegations was suspended. And finally Amy Coney Barrett having been pushed through while Biden was still president, within weeks of a general election, while indeed voting was under way! Good lord! What a mess you have my American friends! 😵💫 😬 🇨🇦 I can’t find even my black heart 🖤 moment in this! Oh wait - all black, with the exception of a giant heart 💓 for the three amazing justices - Kagan, Sotomayor and Brown Jackson!
