I find it very sad and alarming that we are actually living in a time when I
need to protest murderers of my neighbors. That I live in a country that was considered to be free at one time. A country that people
flocked to from every country looking for freedom to raise their families and work for a better life.
I realize now that the country I thought I knew never existed. Not really. I am almost 68 and yes, I’m white. I feel betrayed, sickened that I apparently lived in a bubble. We were a simple middle class family on a budget.
But my education was a white washed version of reality. I have been learning more now than I ever did growing up, about the realities of the world. It is an unfair and violent place.
I want the destruction of ICE and Border Patrol. Not reform. How do reform violence? You don’t. I want to see them in the prisons they built and yes, I want them to get exactly the same treatment that they are giving these innocent people now.

From where I sit, this is what dehumanization is designed to do. It turns a human being into a status, a death into a dispute, and grief into paperwork.
It is hard to accept this is our country. The country we were always told was the best in everything. Though we knew it wasn't always the best, but never did we suspect it would get to this point. Depressing as hell.
Trump seems bent on killing. Killing 100s of South American boaters based on no proof of contraband. Killed over 100 Venezuelans while taking Maduro. Killing thousands in Iran to get to where were before he took office, and he isn't done now that he has opened that can of worms. He wants regime change in Cuba which will be more deaths. He wants to take Greenland which will also be more dead bodies. What is wrong with us that we let this continue? In my long life I did not expect to ever see things this bad and the country taking no action to right it.
Close the concentration camps. Eliminate Ice. Impeach Trump and remove him. Impeach the Supreme Court and remove them. We could keep 3 of them but it might be better to start fresh.

It took me a second to process the title, because I count all the people who died in detention centers, or because of abuse in those places, after which they were taken to hospitals too late, or dumped on the street.

It’s time we all go from bystander to standing up for each other; or we will all be in the same circumstances as Lorenzo, albeit for a host of different reasons and circumstances. I am in a state of despair, heart broken for what is happening in my name because this is my/our government administration. Those in power need to understand they don’t act for us and are not acting in our best interest. They are more emboldened than ever. They must be held to account, including all those in charge. Only then will it change.
Our state is suing Geo Group, the private prison company, because they own the facility where detainees are kept. They've repeatedly denied the state dept of health access to respond to complaints of bad water, moldy & wormy food, inadequate medical care, too few bathrooms, unsanitary conditions, etc. The state can't go after the feds directly but they can go after private businesses violating state law. I don't know why there are no criminal charges yet, or what it would take to do that.
