Just read this. The bill was introduced in the House and referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs. The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee reported that a vote on the bill was postponed and later cancelled. Still canceled?

Actually asking for a friend - she has ties to Palestine & wondered about a boycott if her church initiates it. Can you say more about how this law would play out?

Since the insurrectionists the dump let out of jail are white evangelical nationalists, who hate everyone who isn't like them, and dump loves them, that makes him the number one anti- semite in the country. A little hipocrasy goes a long way.

Thanks for highlighting this. This absolutely would be a violation of our First Amendment rights. And it’s a part of a systematic attempt to peel away elements of the Constitution one by one, with the goal of either evisceration or replacement. (Just wrote a stack post about this.)

What the hell is wrong with these people. Oh yeah, I know, they are pseudo christians who believe Israel must fulfill biblical prophecies before the end times can happen. They are dense enough to believe they will be rewarded for their help. What they don’t seem to understand God will punish them for the wrongs they have committed.

Fantastic article. I'm sure you wouldn't be shocked as to how bad the mainstream articles are on this... but I suggest people read the one in the post today that pretends the bill isn't even about Israel 🙄 and straight up disinformation in the mainstream.

Do we know from anyone who on the Democratic side is planning on voting for it other than the sponsors? That information would be really helpful.

Here is what I sent to Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC's sole (and sadly voiceless) member of Congress. It reflects the templated copy with a few additions.

I am a constituent (Ward 3) and I’m writing to urge you to oppose HR 867.

This bill is an outrageous attack on our First Amendment rights. It seeks to criminalize peaceful boycotts—one of the most foundational tools of democratic protest. Under HR 867, Americans could face a $1 million fine and 20 years in prison just for participating in or supporting a boycott called by the United Nations or other international bodies.

Boycotts helped end apartheid. They helped advance civil rights. And now, Congress wants to criminalize that legacy? This isn’t about foreign policy—it’s about free speech. Whether you support or oppose a specific boycott doesn’t matter. What matters is that in a democracy, dissent is not a crime. I strongly urge you to reject HR 867 and defend our constitutional rights.

One more thing: I am a Jew but I cannot in good conscience stand by while Trump administration permits, indeed supports, Israel's attempted annihilation of the Palestinian people. This bill is not about anti-semitism. It's Imperialism 101. And it is, as we say, a "shanda," a shame.

As a mother and a compassionate human being, I will not allow crimes of humanity be committed in my name. Not now. Not ever.

I know you will do the right thing. Thank you for reading.

Were the White Supremacist right about Israel? “Jews will not replace us?”Israel seem to have a lot of say in the USA especially now that the Orange Puke is the Felon in Chief again. Israel and the USA refused to condemn Putin for the Ukraine invasion and aligning with Russia, China, N.Korea, etc. WTF!! Now Israel wants to stifle OUR freedom of expression?????

Israel is not my country. Nor is Great Britain or France or Egypt or Saudi Arabia or Russia. I can say what I fucking want about them. I can ALSO say what I fucking want about our country. And, Pam Bondi, this one is for you: I say FUCK TRUMP! Now try to send me to prison for 15 years!

Years ago, I learned about AIPAC from my daughter, who worked on The Hill in DC. They had, even way back then, a lot of money that was used to influence support for Israel. I assume they are even more powerful and wealthy today. We seem so entrenched in binary thinking; either you support Israel or you are antisemitic. I don't quite know how to change this environment, but it is hopeful to me that the article you wrote and many of the responses understand that deploring the actions of Netanyahu's government is actually in support of Israel and Jews. Just as I do not blame American citizens for the cruelty of the Trump regime, I do not blame the Jewish people for the situation in Gaza.

This bill, which will surely return in some form, needs to be defeated to stop authoritarian rule in our country.

I called every single one and pointed out that, not only denying free speech is wrong, but that the fact that we are supporting genocide against the Semetic people of Gaza, (who are also Citizens of Israel) is about as AntiSemetic as you can get. Stop supporting this National Socialist government, and their little Jewish Hitler!!
