Ive now read through the 111 comments to date and found happiness,, Qasim, that you had read them, liked most of them, and replied gracefully to many of them. The range and variety of positive responses reassures me that there are good people "out there" who are in this resistance together. Gives me hope.

I'm trying to settle on a single, loving response to spewed hatred, when I'm confronted with it. One sentence; no more -- not that the spewer is likely to hear and be open for more. I'm coming back to an ancient prayer; May Peace be with you. [and leave it at that, lest I be tempted to mwaa ur yo]

Friend, you have tapped into a subject with very long and deep roots, preceding even the founding of the US. The fear and hate are coming from people who are quite sure they have been deprived of something they deserve to have, something that they must have, and vehemently resent it being withheld from them. And right now, their unreal expectations are being escalated by a sympathetic government that is milking their rage to solidify its grasp on power.

At the founding of this country, all power was in the hands of white men of European heritage, and owning other humans as slaves or domestic partners was a matter of course. Over time, the owning of slaves became problematic, and we ended up with a prohibition against slavery in the US, which left the former owners and beneficiary of the former slaves' labor resenting the loss of property. And resenting being required to look upon former slaves, their descendants, and anyone not white as human beings -- as people no better or worse than themselves., That resentment has lasted and the shared hatred has build on itself for over a century, well past the passing of the actual owners and slaves of that time. The fire remains.

Those white men who exercised the power of founding this country were, in most cases, bound in marriage to women, who were not considered as persons like themselves but as helpmates or workers to attend to the men's support and comfort, bearing children, etc. Much the same resentment has arisen as women stood up and claimed equality of personhood, which is another layer of the story.

In any case, I think the racism you are highlighting is bubbling out the cesspool of resentments harbored in the wake of emancipation and applied to anyone who "doesn't look like me" -- to anyone who "should be working for me", who "should be taking orders from me and showing respect."

I am at a loss as to what to do to address the matter on a wider level than the family, community, religious circle that I have access to. Now, with the MAGA cesspool feeling empowered, I fear for all of us.

May Peace be with you.+

What crime did she commit? Well, clue number 1 she didn’t walk in through a door but jumped in through a window. I believe that’s breaking and entering, which for some of us is considered a crime.

The roots of racism and bigotry are the teachings by parents, to young minds, who are impressionable. Unfortunately I know of no way to correct those parents in the home environments, but schools should have the reverse of that training as early as possible. Qasim, the one thing we all know about you is that you are an excellent human being and we are so happy that you are on the right side of humanity. Insults and monstrous comments, from racists and bigots, just completely show their ignorance and stupidity. The smart and sane know this, and will always frown upon, and not tolerate, those evil thinking people.

The immediate knee-jerk response is to establish the concept of you as "the other"... an anomaly (and perceived threat) to their superiority. How dare YOU not only have an opinion or present facts, but dare to challenge the status quo. What their privileged white existence is really conveying, is a fear of the unknown, and that fear is going to present itself as hateful bigotry. These people are cowards. Often, they are poorly educated, misinformed, isolated in ethnocentric thinking (if they think at all), have limited life experiences, and use the most base, racist tropes and insults.

Keep calling them out and exposing their bigotry, Qasim.

We've got your back, my brother.

🙂✊🏼🙏🏼💙🤲🏼

I’m white and I’m really disgusted and sick of the racist bullsh*t. Unbelievable what people of color go through on a daily basis. And not only that but every time you try to stand up for yourselves a lot of white people get angrier and more defensive instead of being accountable when called out. I appreciate that you share the exact reality of your experience when a number of white people cause you pain. It is so important the work that you are doing to speak out and educate people and say things even if many white people are too “fragile” to hear it. Your words and your work are important. You give voice to the voiceless and it takes so much courage to just get up and face the world, to say what you say and do what you do every day. You have thousands of people here to support you, many of us are here to listen and to learn. I hope that is of some consolation, and you give so many others courage to do the same. Thank you for all you say and do and for educating people.

I agree with you that white supremacy is a cancer, and MAGA has metastasized it. I'm sorry you are enduring this abuse, but applaud you for sharing it. We need to see it. Ashli stormed the Capitol, she was involved in an insurrection, and I've never had a single ounce of sympathy for her. MAGAts use her to gaslight us. Can't tell you how many people came after me on social media with their gaslighting about how "libs" should cry over her the way we cried over all the unarmed Black and Brown lives cops have ended. White supremacy is such a cancer that white people applaud when WHITE people die - if those white people were defending Black lives at the time - see Heather Heyer or the people Kyle Rittenhouse got away with murdering. I will never understand the flex of thinking you're awesome because of your skin suit - a thing you had no contribution in creating.

I’m very well aware of how racism works, its disgusts me, sickens me that because someone has a different colour skin, or comes from another country that they are targeted by hateful privileged people.

But I’m going to widen the discussion and I know this is going to be unpopular.

Racism is a Worldwide problem, if you are an immigrant to another country you are a target, and at that point it’s not just about skin colour, it’s about the fact that you are from somewhere else.

I have a Hong Kong Chinese stepson, we are white, we emigrated to New Zealand from the Uk 18 years ago after my Husband was headhunted by a company in New Zealand because there was no-one in the country with his education and experience. And that’s where it all went wrong, within days we experienced racist comments from natural born New Zealanders, and it never stopped. My Husband had it worst, his working experience has left him with PTSD from the way he was treated. After 18 years we had had enough and came back to the Uk. We were fortunate in that we could escape but for many it is never going to end and that’s horrendous because we can stop this if we really tried and it has to start at the top, with Government. They have the ability and the authority to change the narrative, to say loudly, Black and white and the entire Colour spectrum between are just ways to describe us, not a reason to hate, to kill, to discriminate.

The Governments of many countries know they have aging populations with declining birth rates or their education institutions are not able to meet the needs of the country. And this is where Immigration comes in. The country benefits from young families bringing children to supplement the population and the parents experience and education benefit the economy.

It’s only when Governments stop worrying about staying in power and start telling the truth instead of creating culture wars will be see a change. Populations need to be educated that a diverse population benefits all, and that racism will not be tolerated, that just because your skin is a different colour or you come from somewhere else is NOT A REASON TO DISCRIMINATE.

Despite coming back to our ‘Home’ country we still have problems, our son is now of working age, and despite being all he is, I know he’s going to face discrimination especially with his features and his NZ accent.

Until we start facing up to the fact that our differences are not a threat, that they make us interesting then different skin colour, origin, gender, age or any of the ways discrimination occurs equality is just a dream.
