I’m all for criminal penalties for the board, upper management, and major owners of corporations found guilty of destroying people’s lives and making the environment toxic. Fines mean nothing. Until the people whose decisions and actions are made personally responsible, there will be no real changes. The typical CEO excuse, claiming ignorance, is nonsense. While corporations are NOT people, people make up the corporations.
I mean, I’m not totally clear on the difference between “slur” and “insult”; is it just a matter of degrees? Or does “slur” have a specific meaning with regard to dehumanization, racial or ethnic denigration, etc? I can see a person who is called a “corporate hack” or even moderate democrats, who are often labeled “corporate democrats” feeling insulted by that. But is it a slur? Unclear.
Is it the *corporations* that feel insulted when they are called “corporations”? Other than the obvious fact that corporations are not people and cannot feel, and they are, in point of fact, actual corporations, where’s the lie?
I’m so glad you wrote this because being a Chicagoan I believed our Mayor was not doing well for businesses. Thank you for helping me understand what is happening. I hope the Mayor has some good PR when the campaign starts again. Will you look into the others that seem to be favored to run? I know Alexi takes money from AIPAC so he will be off my list. The Tribune is a disgrace as a media outlet. Brandon Johnson has been a terrible mayor. Both of these things can be true.
