I know of a place where muslims, jews and christians all lived together in peace. Then Israel divided and occupied most of their land. In Gaza jews, muslims and christians live/lived together in peace. In the parts of the West Bank that still haven't been occupied they live together in peace. So the fact is where Palestinians is in power, there is coexistence. One of the first religious buildings that Israel attacked in Iran was a Synagoge. Meaning jews were free to practice their religion there. Not going to pain a rosy picture of the Iranian regime. And it IS a regime. There are serious problems. No freedom of expression, in art, in clothes in speech. But if the US has proven anything is that change doesn't come through force. And Iranians must find the solution to this themselves, then and only then can the west help them achieve their goals.

I am one who embraces all. Raised by amazing parents who invited all people from various cultures around the world into our home. I have been extremely blessed. I have absolutely nothing against the Jewish faith and the people of Israel. With the exception of the ‘evil’ perpetuated by Netanyahu and his Zionist government. The horrific hate for the Palestinians and those of Muslim faith from Iran , Lebanon, Gaza, and elsewhere. This is such blatant evil of the highest order, and as well the outrageous acts, and hypocrisy of The Trump Regime.
I take in my heart, and search my mind and deep into my soul and pray earnestly for the world to rise up .To be almighty, as God (Allah) is, we can, as mankind, aspire to be more righteous, forgiving and come together in peace! For the sake of life eternal.
Thank you for this, Qasim. I've been spending so much time over the past weeks working to push past this kind of hatred and fear and distrust in our own country. Sometimes, when I'm surrounded by people who aren't listening or are pushing the same kinds of distrust, it can feel like I'm on my own against it. It's nice to be reminded and shown that there are other people doing this work, too, all over.
Qasim I think many who remain in fear have not tried to see what Islam really is. It is another type of Christianity as I see it. Islam believes in many things Christians do. I think we should attempt to learn about all the different religions so that we understand the ideals of each. In fact these days I’m more in fear of white Christian Nationalists who only believe in people of one color. They are the ones promoting Islamophobia!
Oh my gosh yes! White Christian Nationalists are trying to take over our country and control what we do. I don’t see Muslims or any other group trying to do that.
I am certainly pleased that the Pope recognized the humanity of the Muslims (and Lebanese Christians), but, as a historian, I would go further. Christians in Europe, until recent times, blamed Jews for any disaster that might befall them, even the Black Death of the mid-fourteenth century CE. At the same time Muslim regimes, following the Koran, tolerated and protected their Jewish neighbors, even as Europeans forced them into exile and---finally---a fascist government murdered millions of them (along with Communists, Gays, and Romanis). Those Jews in MI, seemingly hell-bent on libeling Abdul as an Anti-Semite should read a little history.
What a wonderful, concise, hopeful, and uplifting message, Mr. Rashid. Thank you. I hadn't heard about the Pope's graceful and positive answer to this rather cowardly and stupid question. Reporters using weasel words like "some are afraid that...." and passive voice constructions ("It has been said that...") is one of the ways they try to escape actually naming who is doing the fearing and the criticizing. Uncritically referencing "the white identity of Europe" is a racist conception and positions this very poor "journalist" among the bottom of his profession. I'm glad the pope stood up for empathy, dialogue, and acceptance.
The Pope is expressing an example of how to live together in peace and harmony by respecting each other's difference as positive experience that is intrinsic to the Lebanese people, which is where other nations should emulate and live together because it can work anywhere, if desired.
