Mayor Mamdani sounds like a very good politician (I never thought I'd actually say something like that).
And yet, there are so many people who HATE HIM! Why? Because he's a Muslim, because he cares about low income people, because he understands about the affordability crisis (which Donald Trump calls a "hoax"), and because he's a Democratic-Socialist, instead of a corrupt capitalist. (They continue to confuse Democratic-Socialism with the totalitarian Socialism as practiced in the Communist countries.)
What do these paranoid right-wingers want to do, stage a military coup, overthrow Mamdani and replace him with a right-wing dictator, as was done in Chile in 1973, when that country's Democratic-Socialist president, Salvador Allende, was ousted in a coup instigated by our government's CIA and replaced by the military despot, General Augusto Pinochet, who instituted a seventeen year reign of terror and oppression over the people, which resulted in false imprisonments, torture, and assassinations?
Pinochet's defenders say that the coup was necessary to keep Chile from turning to Communism, from becoming "another Cuba," but this was a lie! The real reason for the coup was to protect the interests of a copper company run by an American corporation, just like similar coups in Iran in 1953 and Guatemala in 1954 were staged to safeguard the interests of, respectively, US/UK-owned oil companies and the United Fruit Company. In each case, these coups were defended as being revolts against Communism (a lie), and each country ended up being ruled by a far-right dictator. Anti-Communism was just a red herring. (no pun intended.) (Some have suggested that Henry Kissinger, who was U.S. Secretary of State at the time of the Chilean coup, should have been charged as a "war criminal" because he supported the coup.)
Could what happened in Iran, Guatemala, and Chile also occur in New York City since Mayor Mamdani is also considered a "Communist"? I hope not.
I especially appreciate the stats you gave, as many people fail to recognize that filling potholes is not simply an optic or morale boosting move,but a commitment that relates directly to Mamdani’s broader goal of affordability.
All we really want to see is a city/state/federal government fixing the potholes, and not demonizing any group to hide otherwise being an ineffectual plutocracy. If the Democrats genuinely want to sweep the Midterms, they need to get on the frontlines of fixing the potholes (investing in public transportation, taxing the rich like it's going out of style, sending corrupt politicians to prison/forcing them to pick up trash on the highway, divesting from Israel ASAP...)
He is a great guy, but I was very disappointed to see him endorse Hakeem Jeffries who, if he becomes Speaker of the House in the next Congress will be a big roadblock to change in particular regarding Israel.
I have so much respect and admiration for Zohran Mamdani. I think he is an incredible leader and a huge asset to NYC. Of course the RICH ELITIST ZIONISTS will Spew lies and condemnations on him, maybe even threaten him, but he is a TRUE man of the people.
That is a great example of how Mamdami is doing the work that matters. We have hundreds maybe thousands of potholes in Chicago. So many tired wrecked and the city is so hard to work with with getting them fixed. Thanks Qasim for your continued great work

I know all about potholes! I live in a rural area in the U.K. with narrow, winding roads that were never designed for heavy traffic (especially the big rigs and too many SUVs). The roads themselves need to be completely rebuilt because just filling in the potholes doesn’t really solve the problem (and I don’t mean simply widening them) Some of those roads are regarded as “main roads” and are very busy. We Brits need to get over our love for ever larger vehicles—there is no room for them! This is not America.
Interesting to see the 'broken window' theory turned on it's head and re-presented as the 'pothole theory'. In the broken window theory deteriorating housing leads to deteriorating neighborhoods and more crime. The 'pothole theory' says show people you can fix things that cause them stress and money and they will trust you to do bigger things. p.s. as an added benefit, crime in NYC is way, way down. Who knew what filling potholes could do?
