Let's Build a Future that Protects Human Rights
Global human rights are at historic lows, & the USA is among the worst offenders. By subscribing to Let's Address This with Qasim Rashid, you're helping turn the tide to protect human rights for all
As legacy media fails us, we must rise up to protect human rights
First, human rights globally are at historic lows. A 2023 study conducted by scholars at the University of Rhode Island found that 60% of nations receive a failing grade on human rights, only 20% received an A grade, and an F grade is the global median. The United States—the shining city on the hill—scores an abysmal D grade, ranking 59th globally, and trending downwards.
Second, few reliable sources exist in media to accurately educate, inform, and empower the populace of the on the ground injustices, and the actions needed to meaningfully counter these human rights violations. The Intercept provides a stark example of the failure of legacy media, for example, on the Israeli siege on Gaza, reporting,
The analysis found that, as of November 24, the New York Times had described Israeli deaths as a “massacre” on 53 occasions and those of Palestinians just once. The ratio for the use of “slaughter” was 22 to 1, even as the documented number of Palestinians killed climbed to around 15,000.
Third, it is therefore no surprise that as legacy media fails us, America’s trust in legacy media is also at historic lows, with recent Gallup polling showing that only 32% maintain trust. With human rights plummeting, media showing grotesque bias, and the public losing trust and unable to find reliable sources, something needs to change.
All of this is unsustainable and will only lead to continued disaster.
